As some of you may already know, I started streaming my playthrough of Persona 3 as a lead up to Extra Life 2014. If you're interested in my Extra Life streaming I posted about it here. I have been streaming every day for three weeks now, mostly between 8am and 12pm. I have made a slight change to that schedule, and will be streaming at 8PM two nights a week.
This week those nights will be:
Monday Sept. 29th @ 8pm CST - DAY 22
Tuesday Sept. 30th @ 8pm CST - DAY 23
Every other day I will still be streaming between 8am - 12pm CST (sorry I'm crazy!)
Also if you have any thoughts, questions, or suggestions please let me know!

As some of you may already know, I started streaming my playthrough of Persona 3 as a lead up to Extra Life 2014. I have been streaming in the morning every day for a week now, and I realize 8am is kinda too early for a lot of people to tune in, also there is a very large majority of people who are sane and work during the day. I, however, am not sane and work an overnight job, hence the weird stream time.
So here's my idea:
Since I have two nights off a week, I decided that I will stream in the evening on those nights, instead of in the morning. This week the evening streams will be :
Tuesday Sept. 16th @ 8pm CST - DAY 9
Friday Sept. 19th @ 8pm CST - DAY 12
Every other day I will still be streaming between 8am - 12pm CST (sorry I'm crazy!)
I intend to do a weekly recap of my experiences in Persona 3, and If I can get the time I will make a video of some my favorite moments in the game so far. Also thanks to those of you who have tuned in to watch, and I hope more of you guys can join me.
That being said, here is a bare bones recap of my past week with the game:
Displayed play time: 10hr 23m
Player Level: 13
Day 1
I had a webcam setup, but had to switch programs because of audio-sync issues, and I had to lose the camera :/
The first thing I noticed in Persona 3, aside from the large amount of front-loaded animated cut-scenes, was the tone of the game. It has a much darker tone than Persona 4, which is my only context for Persona. The voiced acting is superb, and the translations are really well done. The music is so fantastic, and I can definitely see a ton of similarity between Persona 3 and 4.
I didn't really have a name for my dude lined up, so i started to name him Gilgamesh, but didn't have enough room, and then realized that I was giving a LAST name first. Joe is in honor of my friend Joe who let me borrow his PS2 and copy of Persona 3.
oh hey it's a dungeon!
Very similar dungeon crawling system, but the difference here is that it is one single dungeon that you slowly ascend through the course of the game.
The combat system is interesting, and it is easy to tell where they tried to improve certain aspects of it in Persona 4. The major difference is you can only control your character. The rest of the party is controlled by AI, and can be given orders on how to act, i.e Heal/Support, Conserve SP, etc. Also if you get downed it takes an extra turn to get up, and that suuuuuuucckksss.
Day 2
I do love all of the characters introduced so far, though some of them aren't likable (like Kenji here) they are well written and well voice-acted. One of the main themes in Persona 4 is the idea that each character is very flawed in their own ways, and that also seems to be true in Persona 3.
This guy sucks, but man he has the Magician Arcana S-Linkwait...what?
Day 3
If there is something I should've learned from the Vinny Caravella handbook on playing video games is that you should always be saving.
Track team!OHGODIDIDN'TSAVEFUUUUUUU... well i guess i get to pick a different team besides track team.
Kendo Team!--wait isn't that the same dude from track team earlier? lame!
Day 4
In Persona 4 the constant time crunch of the weather and fog stuff was a great way to force you to make progress in the dungeons. Here the time crunch is the time until the next full moon, where some stuff will happen.
Tanaka!!!Dude WHAT?! Sicko.
First Boss time!
Day 5
Taking the dumb tests is silly and fun, and it's pretty funny when you get a question wrong because you weren't paying attention to lectures from the start of the game.
ah yes, midterms.New party member!
Day 6
Lots of combat, and fusing personas and stuff, which is what I expected to see in a Persona game. Also, I think the story is pretty cool so far, it has been very vague so far, which I like.
g-g-g-ghooosstss!
Day 7
Though the tone of the game overall is fairly dark, there is definitely a goofy side with the interactions with characters, and dialogue.
Dude you are NOT going to get it on with a teacher. I promise.
My name's Luis, and I have been following Giant Bomb for a while now, I think since mid 2008 or so. I would like to say I've been part of the Giant Bomb Community, but I have never really posted on the forums or gone to events with other duders and stuff. So I am "part" of the Giant Bomb Community, but not as much as I could be, and I hope I can change that.
Yes, I was the aggressive dude from San Antonio
My one goal for this year was to go to PAX East to meet the Giant Bomb crew, make new friends, and see what PAX was all about. So that is what I did. I drove all the way from San Antonio, Texas to Boston, and it was one of the best experiences I've ever had. Being able to ask a question at the Giant Bomb panel was a great experience, even though my question was kinda garbage. To be fair, I didn't really have a question lined up when I got up to the mic. I didn't even expect to get up to the mic at all, but it was worth it, and I had a great time.
That one goal, has evolved into a desire to be more involved with as much as I can, whenever I can. After PAX I went to California Extreme (I flew :P) and that was so much fun to play all those classic machines that I never experienced because they were before my time. Though I didn't really run into many duders at CAX, hopefully next year we can plan out a get together of some fashion. Oh and also PAX is coming to San Antonio in January (yeah, after I freakin' drove all the way to Boston :I) so I'll be going to that as well!
So in an attempt to get more involved with the Giant Bomb Community, I have joined up with our Extra Life team to help raise money...
For The Kids!
I have watched the Giant Bomb crew do their Extra Life streams since Drew and Alexis did their Halo stream in 2012. I did donate a sum of money over the years to the cause, but other than that I never did anything else to help. I have wanted to at least try and do a livestream of my own, but I kept telling myself I wouldn't be able to raise any money and it wouldn't be worth anyone's time. This year that's changing, and I hope I can raise at least a few dollars for the cause. I always worried that livestreaming would be too difficult for me. Turns out it's stupid easy! I suppose there's a reason why Twitch is so big, with everyone streaming everything now, go figure.
Really the only hard part is...
Spreading the word.
@dwigtk mentioned that he posted flyers at local businesses to let people know about the event, and raise some extra money. I am no wizard when it comes to image editing or creativity, but check out this thing I made:
It's not great, but I'm proud of it!
I put this flyer up at my apartment complex's mailbox area, and in the break room at the store I work at. It is hopefully going to get around to other places soon, but I am still working on that. Thanks @dwigtk for the inspiration.
So that brings me to my Extra Life stream.
@fattony12000 is doing a "Road to Extra Life" where he will be streaming for four consecutive weekends before the main Extra Life event on October 25th. Thanks to him for inspiring me to attempt a similar task, with a different style. Be sure to check him out here when he starts his streaming on the 27th of September.
Here's the plan
Starting this week, on Monday, September 8th, I will begin my journey to Extra Life by streaming EVERY DAY (likely between 8am - 12pm CST) up until the week of Extra Life.
What will I be playing?
I'm glad I asked myself, because I will be playing through...
Why Persona 3? Well, in 2011 I played through Persona 4 for the first time, even though I never played any other Persona before. I loved the shit out of it, and I really wanted to give the other Persona games a shot. So with Extra Life coming up, I thought it would make for a great excuse to play through Persona 3, and even raise some extra money before the main event.
Speaking of the...
Main Event
My plan for the stream on the 25th of October involves the following:
a ton of 4-player games including (but not limited to): Mario Party 2, Crawl, and Samurai Gunn.
and some foreign snackery ( DJ ungelvral anyone?)
So I hope to have y'all drop on by to check out my progress through Persona 3, and watch me try not to fall asleep in my chair on October 25th. Here are my things:
