Most Wanted 2017

At the time of writing (2016) these are, for me, the most interesting titles from those scheduled for first release in 2017.

List items

  • Character action from the ruling kings of the genre, plus bullet-hell-style shooting mechanics alongside the melee combat.

I haven't played the first Nier, or any of the other games in the continuity.

  • Looks like more Platinum character action... but this is an action RPG. We've got a dragon sidekick and online co-op.

  • I skipped Twilight Princess and everything since... this looks like they've brought in much learning from modern free-roaming genre.

  • 3D platformer throwback. Looks delightful.

  • Haste is mandatory.

  • The first one was Sonic mixed with Gunstar Heroes. And cutscenes full of anime. A bit too much.

  • I backed this on Kickstarter. Roguelike-ish platformer, with swordplay, weird creatures and an ancient, knobbly megastructure setting rendered in pixel art.

  • I liked Generations.

  • JRPGs are not my wheelhouse. But I always liked FF's science-fantasy aesthetic. The rebel boyband road trip theme speaks to me on multiple levels.

  • Missed it the first time round.

  • This is the samurai Dark Souls game.

  • A new Nintendo console. I skipped the two Wiis, but this might pull me back in.
