A year later, I'm still having the same issues. I've now even moved into a different place in the same city, exact same problems.

  • What kind of issue are you running into?:

On AppleTV, videos stop frequently to buffer, with many essentially unwatchable.

  • Any specific videos where it’s occurring?:

No. It seems to be way worse on videos that are long: the Destiny raid, for instance, won't get more than a few seconds in before it starts to chop. Watching, say, the latest GBE Playdate, I'll get a couple minutes before it pauses.

(skipping questions)

Browser where issues are occurring (have you tried another one?):

  • What’s your IP address (in case it’s an Akamai issue)?:

24.22.72.*

71.238.82.*

Other relevant notes from the thread:

* Streaming from other devices seems to go fine, including changing formats and everything -- I can, for instance, fire it up on another device and stream to the AppleTV without issues.

* No problems streaming other content on the device, including other stuff from the CBS app

If Oculus wanted to be a company producing electronics for the masses, that was not going to happen on its own.

We don't know that that's true, for one, and second, that's not what Oculus told people. This is a huge part of why people are having this reaction that I think you're underplaying in this piece.

As Jeff Atwood tweeted today:

"I was going to change the world with VR and try to change humanity forever, but here's a number."

Jeff's brilliant combination of crazed readings and deep, existential despair makes this so, so great.

I'll just add that having just played through it -- if you have a wired 360 controller, use it use it use it.

I tried playing Keyboard + Mouse and it worked okay for the movement and shooting but a lot of the interface was clunky, and there are minigames I never got to work, tweaks and all -- I could not play the hacking one, for instance, after the introductory one. I ended up stocking up on EMPs for every mission just so I could short mission-critical gates.

With the controller, though, it becomes way easier to do everything, and the minigames become possible.

Highly recommend gamepad. It's how you're going to get your money's worth.

If you've watched Zero Punctuation, you've seen them (every week) and possibly elsewhere. But in the WWE-themed ad, the two pre-pubescent boys get all loopy on the meat/sodium bars, and end up being told... "eat it and beat it". Because that's what you want them doing with... yeah.

Somewhere there's an ad agency that bursts into hysterical laughter every time they get their traffic stats and see that 100,000 people saw it that day.

Stupid multi-platform games, making me decide which system to buy for on top of what game to buy.

Personally, there's also the noise issue: my 360 is just so much louder that if there's a lot of immersive environments, or music, or even particularly good sound design, I start to lean way towards the PS3. I wish I had a slim 360, but... I don't.

I didn't see last year's, but when the intro'd the guests I thought "Oh, hey, Leigh Alexander, I've read her, cool," and then after the first "FUCK BOSTON FUCK BOSTON FUCK BOSTON" I was embarrassed...

From there it descended into anger pretty quickly.

For all the "everyone else was interrupting" defense, seriously, dudes -- no one else was screaming "FUCK HOUSTON" or whatever over and fucking over. She was way, way, overboard.

I thought for sure this was the CD-I, but it's not popping for me. If it's not the CD-I (and why wouldn't it be) I'm stumped. Looks like a VCR, sucked, flopped into obscurity pretty fast... dangit
