Better Games

While some games explicitly move the industry forward, there are others which stand on their shoulders to become better. (List not in any order)

List items

  • It's being edged out of the limelight because of SF4's friendlier face, but that doesn't stop 3S from building on it's predecessor and being a world class game.

  • Being able to move while crouching alone makes it a better game, but Rogue Spear did us a lot better than that over the original R6. All it needed was a server list, then I'd still be able to play it today.

  • Somebody, somewhere, learned SOMETHING about making a batman game. This takes all the mechanical knowledge we know and polishes it to a mirror shine.

  • Again, take what you know (in this case Uncharted 1) and make it better. Playing the game feels as it should, you'll get no complaints from me (except for those grenades, which seem to have magical fuses).

  • SC4 is a spectacle. It sold well, but the fighting game community tends to ignore it. It probably still has the best textures out of every fighting game to date, but no one wants to play it. There is no arcade version so people in Japan EXTRA don't care. Is this where "the best fighting game of all time" is at now? At the end of the day it's a better game than before, so what happened?

  • I have made...a terrible mistake...

  • Braid hit hard and grabbed the spotlight, but even without all the hype it uses what we know about simple platforming, adds in those time puzzles, then turns and looks at you as if you knew this game should have existed years ago.

  • Pandora Tomorrow introduced the 2v2 versus mode, but CT made people who don't even like stealth games take notice. With the excellent level design in MP, people who make fun of AI in stealth games have no more excuses against live players. That co-op mode might have had something to do with it as well.

  • So much critical hate did not stop this game from selling, which is good because this game is a "better" TPS. There are so many systems you can see working well in other games of the same genre it's ridiculous. The soft cover system, the way blind firing works, trading weapons directly, and dragging your partner when they're down should be in more TPS (just fix the bugs first please).

  • ODST's system takes us back to Halo 1 which works very well in the scenarios that were crafted for it (co-op). Unfortunately Bungie didn't think making it easy to find other people to play co-op with was important <_<.

  • We already know the game itself builds on SFA2/SFZ2. However, in addition the console ports of SFA3/SFZ3 are examples of probably the most effort capcom has put into a home release. Pocket-Station connectivity, World Tour Mode, and Edit mode are all awesome and will probably never be seen again, but now we always have this benchmark to point to.

  • CvS2 is up there as having a roster with a mostly viable lineup in serious play, with Blanka somehow at/near the top. Who would've guessed? The game itself is much better than CvS1, but I'll always miss the music. Shake well before serving, c'mon wake up!

  • Better than the games that came before and after it, the only problem with SoR2 is that you can't dash!

  • Man, Capcom really knows how to make a side scrolling beat em up. Just try it for yourself

  • Ever wonder where Jin came from in Marvel vs Capcom? Here you go.

  • All you need to know is that you can control your whole party instead of letting the AI do it, that's why its a better game.

  • Better than HL1 in every way, it's got "the touch". Take the experience as a whole because if you try to break it down, the shooting is as generic as it gets. When I say shooting I refer to you->shoot->soldier with assault rifle or you->shoot->zombie with pistol.

  • If it were a third person shooter Mass Effect 2 should be taking notes (dead serious). It's never getting a sequel, we're gonna have to live with that.

  • Don't copy that floppy! Oh wait it's not talking about this version XD.

  • This game will always be in a strange place, but that doesn't keep it from being the best Sonic 1.5 it can be.

  • If you ever forget about arcade culture/philosophy Ikaruga is always here to remind you. Oh yea and it builds on Radiant Silvergun XD.

  • Builds on: Ray Crisis. Thank you for adding an auto option to the missles Raystorm.

  • No more fake licensed characters but a better game awaits you here.

  • Still running servers (unofficially), STILL.

  • Oh yea it's been supplanted now, but never forget what it did for the team deathmatch you enjoy today and the mods you enjoyed back then.

  • Don't bother with the console versions you want space sims on the PC.

  • Always "seize the day", trust me.

  • I don't know if this game is good or evil, but it is a step up from the first.

  • Drop that force levitation for saber throw and selectable characters!

  • The shooting reminds me of GRAW more than other more popular TPS and that's a step up from the original ME. Combat needs just a bit more tweaking before they can leave it alone. Very streamlined and clean.
