They're really banking on Lord of the Rings games making a comeback, huh?

I guess some games, like Poker, are inextricably tied to gambling in people's minds while others get a free pass. Every other ad I got on Twitch in the months before the super bowl was about some gambling site where you could bet on some dude kicking a field goal or something. If anyone tried to limit 'murica's access to football games though, that would probably start a riot. Shit ain't fair.

Unrelated, but it's always weird to me to see people look down on kick.com as the knockoff of twitch for gambling weirdos when twitch is still very eager to show you ads for gambling.

I voted Yes even though I can only think of one example: The Jacob Geller video about Returnal makes it seem like that game actually had a compelling ending. He didn't make up fanon for it, he just pieced that game's very sparse cut-scenes together in a way that helps explain the point of the game better. If I played that game without the Jacob Geller video, I probably would've hated whatever I thought was the true "ending".

Hell yeah, Jet Force Gemini keeps me coming back to N64 emulators every few years and lately, trying to emulate that game has been terrible. Project 64 no longer renders the targeting reticle for half of the guns and there was one other emulator I tried that wouldn't run the game at all. I don't remember what it was called. I've been considering finding the cheapest xbox series S or One S just to get the Rare Replay collection. That might still be the more interesting option over paying $50 for Nintendo Switch online but I'm glad there's more options on the table.

Truly the most horrifying Silent Hill game...

I feel like there used to be a lot of disagreement about what the worst Silent Hill game was and then BAM! Ascension shows up to unite us all under one banner. We didn't think Konami could do worse than spinning their IPs off to be Pachinko machines but here we are. I think I heard somewhere that new Japanese gambling laws made it harder to profit from pachinko machines so that probably explains Konami's pivot back to games and this parody of bad mobile game monetization.

I hope you all saw they even have exclusive loading screens behind the battle pass. They monetized loading screens!!! Seriously!

Wow, the article really glosses over how little money the game store makes vs just Fortnite. They should probably kick Tim out and get someone who gives a shit about the actual store.

Unless that big difference is because most Fortnite players aren't on PC?

Bandcamp is the most user-friendly place to buy music and I'm going to be sad if it shuts down someday.

I don't think I'll like this but it's a cool idea. The racing genre is kinda stale so I'm glad a big company like Nintendo is fucking around and finding out.

Oops, called out. Yeah I didn't read the OP, I just wanted a thread about the trailer. I'll read it now so I'll stop making bad assumptions. Sorry!

Edit: yeah damn, my previous post looks dumb now. The only thing I really remember about Ken is 1) him killing a guy and 2) all my friends hating him in the fighting game, lol. Ken's not in the trailer either so maybe they cut him too!

If the new P3 remake doesn't have FeMC then it's not the ultimate form of the game I've been waiting on and it's useless to me. Was really hoping this game would end the "which version of P3 should I play?" question everyone approaching this series has but I guess we'll continue to have that debate.

@ben_h said:

Removing the female protagonist sucks but is one way of neatly patching over that glaring icky problem that was her Ken social link. I saw a bunch of people wondering if this was going to be a Persona 3 remake with no FES or P3P content (or maybe just the main part of FES with no Answer content).

Maybe I don't remember what you're referring to but if it's just the FeMC romancing someone who's clearly much younger, I don't buy it. P5's whole first dungeon is about a guy who sexually abuses children and most Atlus games have plenty of homophobia that doesn't get removed later. It probably would only take a few line changes to make the Ken/FeMC relationship less extreme. Remember when the Catherine remake doubled down on the homophobia? Atlus loves having glaring icky shit in their games.

FeMC got cut because these games are made by straight boys who can only imagine the straight boy experience and nothing else matters to them.

Also, I'm a weirdo who LOVED The Answer and if that's cut too then wtf are we even doing here?

It did this while costing $70 (note: I played on Game Pass) and looking like a $40 game from five years ago. For comparison, Grounded was $40, came out last year, and both looked and performed better than Redfall when it launched.

This. It's been funny to see what games think they're worth $70 and which big releases could probably be $70 but still come out at $60. We had two big remakes with successful launches (Dead Space and Resident Evil 4) that were $60, FROMSOFT still launches their games at $60 (including Armored Core 6) even though they recently had their most successful game ever. Many of the $70 games coming out are launching broken AF.

Makes me think the choice to make your game $70 is more a reflection of the studios' culture rather than one based on production costs.
