  • I have no experience with Demon's Souls, and it looked seriously off-putting...but I rented Dark Souls and it's crazy scary, tough as nails and very different and intriguing. I ended up pouring over fifty hours into the game before I even attempted the endgame and it became exponentially more enjoyable the more time I put into it. I can see myself replaying this game over and over again in the coming years.

  • I hate Valve's games and their horrible Source engine, so when I say that I had a wonderful, wonderful time with Portal 2, it carries a lot of weight. It's very funny, well-written, and filled with clever puzzles that stretch the mind. I thought Portal (2007) was good but Portal 2 really delivers and knocks it out of the park in a more fleshed-out way than the original did. Good job, Valve.

  • The campaign is really solid and fun to play, and there's tons of great new options and modes. I still think the Gears of War games are the best shooters in existence, and this game even has me playing online multiplayer now and again. What do you know? Also, it looks fantastic as usual.

  • Props to Bethesda for getting me to care about any of their RPGs. I don't like any of the Fallout games and I HATE Oblivion, so it really means a lot when I say that Skyrim is one of my favorite games this year. It's not flawless, but it's very well executed and really gets the immersion right.

  • Delightfully bizarre and marvelous in every way. The music and gorgeous visuals are one thing, but the silky smooth gameplay really brings it home. Great to pick up and play.

  • It tells a great, interesting story with lots of twists and turns and the gameplay is consistently mind-bending and fun but rarely frustrating. It's awesome!

  • In one sitting I played through six worlds. It's a pretty delightful game that uses 3D well and it gets crazy creative after the special levels open up. Tons of classic Nintendo fun.

  • Great sense of style...the visuals and music and especially the narration are all part of the cohesive feel of the game. I'm not crazy about the core gameplay itself really, especially since I dislike most of the weapons and options, but it's a good adventure beginning to end and has a great last few missions.

  • It falls short of its true potential, sure, but it's still the best-looking, most cinematic game on the market and it has some really great tender moments among the characters. The story falls apart two thirds of the way through and there's numerous extremely frustrating shooting sections that show me that Naughty Dog still has a long way to go in the gameplay department...so that saddens me.

  • It's an amazing party game. Very funny. Kinda dirty. But very fun to play.
