12 hours!? I don't know about this, devoting months of prep work for single raid...a 12 hour slugfest sounds like an overly drawn bummer...

That's the wrong mindset to have. The encounter doesn't take 12 hours to do. It just took them that long (closer to 11, actually) to do it first. When World of Warcraft was new, I was in one of the first guilds to take down Ragnaros in Molten Core. More than half the raid wasn't even at the level cap, and our gear wasn't even remotely up to par. There weren't many strategies for how to kill any of the bosses, because a lot of them hadn't been killed by anybody. We did it anyway, and it took us days. Days. It was a trial by fire, and the whole point was to figure out what to do and then do it. The article says these guys collectively died 1,606 times? That sounds about right. Obviously, when everyone else tries this raid it will take a lot less time. That's how these things work. Later on down the road, when you're level 28 and you try this raid out with friends, I bet it will be a cakewalk and take you a couple of hours.

TL;DR this doesn't apply to most people who will play Destiny, only the crazy ones.

"Though it took more than 10 hours to deconstruct Vault of Glass, Primeguard figures a team knowing exactly what they were doing could finish it in two or three hours."

i think Destiny will be on the list, but it wont win, Brad seems to really really like it. and Patrick said he was enjoying it as well,

I dont think titanfall will be on the list as Jeff liked it.

If Far Cry 4 isnt a great game that will easily trump everything for the staff, if not, then Watch Dogs will win this category (i enjoyed watch dogs, but everyone seemed really bummed by that game)

I'm not sure that anyone on the staff had expectations high enough for Watch Dogs to consider it a particularly big disappointment.

i remember Jeff said on a podcast that Watch Dogs looks fucking awesome.

to me Jeff barely uses those words when describing a game.

I think it's a 4. I fucking love the core gameplay, I find the game itself extremely fun to play. Just about everything else about it (aside from the visuals) is heavily flawed, though.

this.

the world is interesting, but i hate how the story is delivered in this game, its such a mess.

im interested in the world of destiny, but like the "plot" of this first game, so far (im on venus) is a mess. and thats shocking and disappointing to me since the halo series had some of the best stories in a fps imo.

Still enjoying the game though, but i fully expect the reviews to slaughter the game, aand i hope bungie takes on some of the criticism and addresses it for the first expansion.

id say keep playing folks, based off the 14 hour gamespot livestream, initially all those guys seemed very meh on the game, but at the end of the stream, they said it grew on them.

will say though, its a bummer to hear the story is basically told super slowly,

*Super poorly/It is not good.

ill may very well join you in saying that, but ill wait till i get my copy and play through it.

@mrfluke: As Hailinel said, I don't expect South to make any noticeable difference in terms of making it easier to get badges for Prime. If anything, it's going to make it worse. People that go to the first South are probably going to get a "lesser" version of PAX (for lack of a better description), and then begin thinking "well, that was pretty fun...I wonder what the 'real' PAX is like." The first East was pretty small in terms of size and in terms of which publishers showed up. But once they proved that a second PAX could work, the second year was huge and moved to the newer, larger convention center in Boston.

talking to Jeff after the GB panel, according to him, Companies find PAX South to be real weird in terms of timing and how that coincides with their "Marketing plan", so i can see what your saying of this first Pax Small being small.

(oh and it was cool chatting with you for a brief bit after the panel btw, that PAX guide you made was genius and helped a ton)

Yea Pax was terrific this year (my 1st pax) id also do it again in a heartbeat.

really do wonder though how much tougher it will be to get those tickets next year.

They sell out faster and faster every year. My only advice is be ready and hope you're at a computer when they go on sale.

think Pax South will help stem that a bit? probably way too early to tell.

I kind of doubt it. PAX East didn't really do anything to help, and a lot of people double-dip (and some will likely triple-dip now that there's a third U.S.-based PAX).

That aside, what caught your fancy at the show? It being your first PAX, everything was brand new to you, I imagine.

true, if south gets to eventually be as awesome as east and prime, i would consider all 3 as well.

as for my time at prime, yea everything was totally fresh and new to me, id say the majority of my time was down in the expo hall seeing games, and catching panels and then talking to folks in and out of lines, (caught the Volition panel, they showed off exclusive footage of a musical number for that saints row expansion, caught the Hunger games, the Royal Rumble, and the GB panel, the Maestros of Gaming panel, and caught a bit of the Sakaguchi Panel as well)

Actually thought the spectacle of that expo hall was awesome, as a fresh-faced newbie, it felt like i was at a public E3 :P , so i tried to see as much as possible :P , managed to see a good mixture of AAA and indie stuff between the 4 days, (Evolve, Guilty Gear XRD, The Order 1886, Bloodborne, Nidhogg, Apotheon, Nuclear Throne, Axiom Verge, Superhot, Gang Beasts)

Folks in the lines were also super friendly as well, id say about 80-90% of my time in lines for games was spent talking to people, didn't need to pull out the handheld for much of pax to kill time, listened in on a conversation, chimed in at the right moment, and then was part of the conversation in the line.

The "feel-good" aspect of PAX that everyone talks about definitely lived up to the hype, as your just really surrounded by like-minded people, and then some of your favorite internet/videogame icons are just straight walking the halls live everyone else and are just down to chat.
