Smithing is excellent for all classes. Enchanting will be a requirement though if you want to end up with relatively strong character. Just get some fortify destruction enchantments going and before you know it all your spells will be free :)

Unrelenting Force is an amazing shout against multiple opponments. Just shout the caster and anything else you can hit through the room. Then proceed to repeatedly apply your hammer directly to the caster's forehead.
