Top Ten Games of 2012

Well, I have put this off for far too long. Not because I am too lazy to make a list, but because it has taken me this long to finally get my list all put together. Leave a comment or two if you want to compare lists.

MY LIST IS IN REVERSE ORDER

List items

  • Dishonored was a game that was completely under my radar until the day it came in the mail. The only thing I heard about the game was that is was first person and stealthy and I seem to enjoy those types of games. Dishonored makes my top ten list without a doubt. Once you learn the mechanics of the game and dive into the world, it grips onto you and does not let go until the credits.

  • Far Cry 3 is a beautiful, quickly addicting shooter that dumps you on a island were man is the deadliest predator. From start to finish, I constantly found myself wanting more and more of its rich history and fascinating character arcs. Plus, you burn pot fields down to Skrillex. What more do you want?

  • Oh, Witcher 2. The fighting, the story, the characters, the gorgeous art design, the deep, dark magic lore. This game has a little bit of everything and I was enthralled the entire time I played it.

  • The original Borderlands was one of my favorite games of 2010, so I could not wait for the sequel to drop and get back on Pandora with some buddies for loot hunting and monster killing. Borderlands 2 is just what I could have wanted for the sequel. Gearbox added new characters, along with a very interesting plot with one of my favorite villains this year, Handsome Jack. I still go back to Pandora to do quests every now and then, and with DLC coming out every month, I think I will find myself going back far into 2013.

  • Diablo III hits me in my most sheltered spot in my soul. I have an extremely addictive personality and this game did not help that fault. I could not stop playing this game. The loot had me coming back every single day, and when I beat the game, I instantly went back in for another playthough.

  • I know, I know. Another Call of Duty. Well, hear me out. Black Ops 2's campaign is the reason this game makes my list and at such a high place. The campaign is so ambitious and intriguing, it raises the bar for shooter campaigns to a new level. Plus, the multiplayer is just plain fun. I cannot stop playing this game.

  • There is not much I have to say about this series. Tell-Tale did an incredible job redefining the adventure and horror genre. Cannot wait for Season 2.

  • I did not want to play this game. I saw it at E3 when they first showed it off and it looked pretty dumb. OK, I get to walk around a desert and look for a scarf... Cool... I also played the demo and it crashed on me three times. I was done with this game. I was home, be myself and thought to myself, "I have two hours to kill. Why not?" I started the game and instantly was engulfed in beauty and wonder, I was put in a comma for those 2 hours. One of my favorite games this year.

  • Mass Effect 3 is the end of an era. I started this series in 2009, and instantly fell in love with its vast lore, incredible story points and just down right awesome soundtrack. This game is strong just like its previous brothers and I did not have a more enjoyable experience this year ending this saga.

  • Reckoning did not grab me at first. I bought the game in February and beat it in November. But throughout that entire time, I did not have one bad moment. Every single thing I did in that game I enjoyed. I wanted to see every bit of that game. I did all of the factions, every side quests I could see. I respected my guy dozens of times to try out the different fighting styles. I looked up the lore, I read the books I picked up, I could not get enough of this game. And, that is why Amalur is my game of the year.
