lolwut? No they're not. Not even close.

Yes they are:

That's from the official Whiskey Media website.

Of course you could argue that they're skewing stats to try and appeal to advertisers, but they're certainly not far off. I mean, no matter how hard you skew your stats, you could never claim GB was the biggest gaming website on the net. Yet Comic Vine can make the claim to be the largest comic website on the net. And if you do a Google search for "comics" the only things above them are webcomics, the official pages for Marvel and DC comics, and the Wikipedia page on comics. I know google isn't a perfect way of judging website popularity and size but it's a decent indicator. Comic Vine is fucking HUGE in comics.

Also, I'll leave you with this. Here are the site traffic stats for Comic Vine and Giant Bomb respectively. If you look back to last year, you'll notice that in July 2011 (which I assume is when Comic Con was) Comic Vine got around 215,000 unique visitors a day for a short period. In contrast, the most Giant Bomb has ever got in a day is around 170,000, even during E3 and other really busy times. Obviously normally Giant Bomb is pulling in quite a few more visitors than Comic Vine, but that says far more about the audience size than it does about the websites. Comic Vine is a huge website. A Juggernaut in comic book websites.

Also, on the original topic of subscriber content from the other sites - it's far easier for a site with 5 editorial staff to produce extra content than it is for a site with 2 or 1 staff to do that.

I googled "comics" and comic vine didn't show up till the 8th page beneath much more popular comic sites like CBR, Comics Alliance and IGN's comic site. Also speaking from personal experience, I have a large group of friends who collect comic books and none of them visit CV or had even heard of it until I mentioned it to them.

And I don't take issue with Comic Vine's popularity over Giant Bomb since I'm not a child who wants to go pee in my neighbour's garden, I just take issue with the disingenuous way in which Whiskey speak about Comic Vine in calling it the "largest" comic site. Well, it's a wiki, so yes it's the largest in that it has more pages than the bloody bible, but the way they use the word and imply they are talking about the size of the fanbase always leaves a very sour taste in my mouth.

no one i have ever spoken to irl has ever heard of any whiskey sites until i told them about them

I clearly need better friends, right?

Even the people I know who are traditionally all over the VGA show have been hating on it this time.

That can't be good.

I'm taking general education classes right now for the most part.

Same next spring, though I will be taking a class "Intro to IT Concepts" because if I want to take any other classes in that field, I have to take that class.

@alexisg: I don't think I've had problems with the Theater Mode player, but with the in-browser player. My solution was to just use the Flash player. It probably was just too much for Chrome to handle. I seem to remember it only really being an issue with videos over 30 minutes long or so. It's no big deal really.

@H2Oyea it still looks great. Don't know if I would say it's still the benchmark for PC games.

@H2Oyea: Basically, it's a good idea to replace hard drives every 3 years or so, because they're old and get more likely to fail. I've got at least two machines that are >3 years old, and the hard drives are still going strong. I'm still not going to keep using them, they're out of warranty and old.

Could you post what it says if you run "dxdiag"? That should tell us what your specs are for the most part, and give us a better picture of what might cause it to be slow. My bet is it's just old, and stuff takes a bit more power than before as things advance. Another helpful program is CPU-Z.

On a related note, whenever I run the HTML 5 player, all my Chrome tabs crash after a few minutes of watching HD video.

I'm on Win7 Home x64 with Chrome 15.

i7 2630QM

8GB RAM

Makes no difference which GPU.

I currently have a laptop hooked up to a 19" monitor that I've had for almost 6 years. I extend the desktop across my laptop screen and the desktop monitor for working, but use the desktop monitor alone for gaming.

I'm looking at getting a new 24 or 27" monitor when I finally get a new desktop PC.
