I just know this is going to turn into the same debate as PS3 trophies and saying "just ignore it" really doesn't cut it. Certainly it doesn't have the immersion destroying problem of in-game achievements since you don't exactly get 'immersed' in a website, but again, tiny bit of effort to create an option so people who don't like a thing can turn it off and people who do like it can leave it on. On a site this centered around user-input something so simple should be customizable.
