It's more tolerant than persecuting people based on their beliefs. I am by all means pro-secularization of American politics and disagree with teaching religion in public education. However, my original point was that some of the atheists in this thread are equally if not more religiously intolerant than many theists.
There's a difference between being religiously intolerant and thinking religion should fuck off out of the legal system.
You act as if Religion is an actual being that you can just call names and hope for it to leave. As long as there are living, breathing people on this planet, there will always be diversity and clashing ideals and beliefs. It is only natural that a politician who is Christian to surface himself as such and allow his beliefs to influence his decisions and his choices. If you don't like that you have every right to vote "for the other guy".
