Goblin Stone's demo is really rad. Play that and you'll know exactly what you're in for. Kinda Darkest Dungeon-y but instead of nonstop misery there's adorable goblins.

If you haven't yet, play the Shadowrun RPGs. Returns is skippable but Dragonfall and Hong Kong are incredible RPGs. And a pivotal story element in that setting's lore is GOBLINIZATION, which is why there's fantasy races and magic in the cyberpunk future. Harebrained Schemes' next game, Battletech, is more XCOM-with-mechs strategy-oriented but has a really powerful story, too.

This really sucks, I hope Jess & Jason land on their feet. GB won't be the same without them.

Really hate the way Fandom handled this. It's just so unfair.

I haven't kept up with HaloI (that's an i) since launch and now I feel caught up. Had a lot of fun with its multiplayer but a combination of bugs and its oppressive battle pass ultimately made me bounce off.

Great write up, gamer_152!

CRPGs (that is, the real-time with pause variety) are dead and buried. The most notable developer still trucking along with them is Owlcat Games, the Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous devs; every other one has either jettisoned the RTwP aspect (e.g. Baldur's Gate 3) or changed genres entirely (whatever that next Pillars of Eternity game is gonna be, looks kinda Skyrim-like so far). And even Owlcat's games offer an optional turn-based combat system.

I'm probably overlooking some indies out there, because as one might say it's never been a better time to be playing video games and pretty much every genre is getting something. But compared to other genres it's in a really tough spot right now.

There's an absolute embarassment of strategy and tactics games out there this year, even with a high-profile delay like Midnight Suns, or Baldur's Gate 3 being 2023. It's the sort of feast that was unimaginable just ten years ago. How times change.

But to single it down, Tactics Ogre is back so I dub thee the Year of Tactics. The Queen hath returned.

Maybe its time to realize that Jeff was the problem.

Let's just stop that thought right there before someone takes your ridiculous gaffes seriously.

If you ever visit Giant Bomb during the middle of the night in North America you'll see the bots in action. Every night, all year long.

Always wondered why measures were never put in place to crack down on the spam problem.

Why not just be able to speak about what they are thinking and where they are in that process?

I think the problem with doing something like that is if a staffer states they're thinking about doing something, and that something doesn't then go on to happen, people will get pissy. Even if it's something relatively innocuous like 'oh, we're thinking about doing a regular monday livestream to cover new releases' - if that then never happens, there'll be a vocal minority of members who will go out on their front porches screaming at the storm that they were promised something. Most of us would, of course, take the thought for what it is, just a thought. But if enough people get angry about it that leads to a rise of bad feeling and sentiment amongst the community. I think that's why a lot of organisations and companies have stopped being so open about their future plans now.

I like to try to think of the radio silence as the kind of 'good surprise' feeling you get when Nintendo releases a direct and tells you about a game they've been working on in secret and that it's coming out next month.

I try not to speculate personally, but at the same time GB Premium is a service people are real paying money for. If it's changing people should be notified when it happens, not months later.
