Wow Polygon...just wow

Software launch is lackluster, but what other 'modern' console had smooth fully realized launches?

I will be interested in knowing what they think of the Xbone.

I hope everything they do at least until 2013 is over is somehow in memory of Ryan. It doesn't have to be overt, but a section dedicated to all things related to his work and presence on the site. I've mostly gone past the stage of raw grief but yet It is so surreal that he is no longer with us and will stay that way forever. I am afraid that listening to the podcast will reopen new wounds, but hopeful it will end up being cathartic as part of gradual acceptance of reality and gathering of strength to move on.

I am very sorry for this tragic news of Ryan passing away. It comes as a profound shock, that he is not with us anymore and Giantbomb, always ready to dispense with his opinion on all matters related to gaming. Condolences to his friends, family, and the community of Giantbomb, as he leaves an empty void that nothing ever will even begin to imagine filling. A truly sad turn of events, he will live us in the fond memories he had so generously contributed in hundreds of videos, podcasts, and writings.

Goodbye Ryan, hope you are in a better place, will keep you in my prayers.

Great to see other game sites are quoting Giantbomb as its source reporting the turnabout in MS' Xbox One DRM policy. Patrick has obtained and relayed what could be the 'scoop' of the year and was obviously on top of all the relevant sources to follow up on Microsoft's internal moves right after the E3. Great job all around.

That said, MS should have left the policy talk under wraps and start next generation with the continuation of policies on X360, then gradually introduce their copyright management schemes as adoption of their platform grew. The shock would have been less following this model and gamers would not have had to deal with such drastic change, but rather in incremental doses.

Let's see if the list of concessions would grow to include possible price cuts or lower price on contracts, and other perks related to Live that MS will have in store to combat the overwhelming negative tide in its PR fiasco. This ain't over yet, nor should it be.

Kinect watching someone masturbate? They already know full well what you do in private, having a 24 hour poring camera into your living room ain't that much of a leap in the level of government surveillance and keeping tabs on its populace.

Polygon was exemplary, being at least honest with themselves and justifiably reactive toward the nascent problems with the game, admitting that the so called review samples were conducted literally in vacuum connected to servers earmarked just for that purpose. The change in score reflects the realization in journalistic process that parallels the experience of its readers coping with the introduction of online DRM and its implications, and brings journalists off the pedestal to the level of consumers, a very admirable thing to undertake. The change in score did not take over a long period of gestation period of varying product cycle, and was immediate in effect, informing still a very large swath of prospective buyers of the intermittent and consistent technical shortcomings the product harbors. If nothing else, the review article basically stands up for itself, with nothing edited, in which a fascinating look into how an editorial is formed and altered is transparently demonstrated. It takes some guts to do I applaud them for that.

Chris is too busy fumbling his way through Arcanum and its dastardly wolves lol. I think the writing will be ably handled by George Ziets or Brian Mitsoda.

In my opinion SimCity 2000 Windows version is the best in the series. SimCity 4 shines due to the amazing amount of custom mod work the community has contributed since its release. I think SimCity '5' could've been something similar to 'SimCity Online', and something that bridges SimCity 4 to its true successor.

@brodehouse: I played Bioshock, and I'd agree with you from what I remember. I recall not using any of the weapons presented progressively in different situations as simply freezing enemy and bashing them with wrenches would all I use primarily. New weapon acquisitions always precede certain set moments where that particular instrument is, well, instrumental, and nothing more. And the aspects of gameplay where anything deeper than just rudimentary run and gun type FPS convention would be too few and far between, if not wholly contrived in staged vacuums, such as electrocution coming into play when you almost always invariably find splicers trudging around in water puddles. The vita chambers where one always comes back to life eliminate any semblance of any logic based on realism and betray any thoughtful investment in game balance and tension or lack thereof. Moreover, water ironically having almost no effect of importance in any situation or circumstance for a game taking place in its entirely in a dilapidated city under, well, water, are examples of mea culpas to a rather pedestrian game design. I would expect Infinite to be no different.
