Games Beat in 2011

List items

  • Solid game. The puzzles are just hard enough, and the ambiance makes that game.

  • 85+ hours, max S.Links. THIS GAME IS SO LONG.

  • Not as good as the first one, but still not a bad game, despite some pretty serious flaws.

  • Just great, start to finish. Great single player, mesmerizing level design, and super fun co-op play.

  • Phenomenal. Totally subtle story, ridiculously competent controls and a weapon system that just begs to be played with.

  • Absolutely gripping from start to finish. I did not want to stop playing the game. Despite some of the AI just being completely stupid, and some ridiculously out of place gameplay sections, the narrative and atmosphere were top notch.

  • It's melee Borderlands, with some jankiness. It's fun - beat the entire game co-op. It gets super easy by the end, though.

  • I actually had never completed this game. Finally got through it. It's a pretty good game, lot more sandbox-ish moments then in MW2 or Black Ops.

  • An incredibly solid game. By the end of the game, with all the sniper weapons I found it was much more effective than participating in the melee, but a well-crafted and complete experience. The multiplayer is pretty fun, even if the jetpack guys feel somewhat useless compared to the other two classes.

  • This is another incredibly well-crafted Batman game, along the same vein as Arkham City. If it sounds reductive, it shouldn't, because more of the same level of greatness is pretty astounding. I was on the fence about the story of the game, but the supremely dark ending of the game really turned me around. The open world-ish parts were fine, I liked power grappling everywhere.

  • The single player for this game was kind of a weird beast. It was incredibly gorgeous, and the fighter pilot scene was one of the best gaming moments of the year, easily. Yet, it was kind of trying to do a mix of the over-the-top bombastic moments of Modern Warfare, and a little bit of grounding in reality. It does the same throw you into different soldiers trick, but all in all, it's a decently told story. The QTEs at the end of the game were kind of anti-climactic, but I suppose that's not what BF3 is for.

The multiplayer is incredibly solid. People bitching about Battlelog need to get over it, this is the way that the future is going. It's an elegant interface that I have never had any problems with. No different than Gamespy or Quakespy used to be back in the day. While I'm more a fan of the Modern Warfare-style close-quarters intense infantry battles, I can still respect and enjoy the multiplayer, though I may not sink as many hours into it.

  • Uncharted 3 is as mechanically as good as Uncharted 2 in every way, and surpassing it in a lot of ways with the new fistfighting mechanics and the removal of some of the more annoying boss fights. From a story perspective, however, I still prefer the second game.

  • Clocking in at just under 47 hours, this is the first Elder Scrolls game I actually beat. Archery is broken. I think I enjoyed the Thieves Guild quest line the most.

  • This game is crazy in the best possible way. I got 100% of the districts cleared, not counting the collectibles. Everything about this game surprised me, and this is the only GTA-style game I've ever beaten. The only other open world game I've ever beaten is Infamous. Can't wait to try co-op later.

  • This is a fitting end to the series. The shortest one yet, but they got done what they needed to get done, and the people left at IW have shown that they can still make a competent game. The multiplayer is pretty finely tuned without too many glaring issues. While Treyarch obviously has another Black Ops in them, I'm curious to see what IW and Sledgehammer do now that the Modern Warfare franchise is wrapped up.
