Woah! Thank you all for the super positive responses! Both here and on twitter have been blowing up since I've posted and that is always encouraging.
I've been a long-time listener and reader but I've only been a subscribed, contributing member here for about a month. And I have to say, it's really great to be apart of the GiantBomb community and find such kind people and such a good reception for these crazy designs I try in my free time. Not to mention, there is such a killer group of fellow designers & artists here in the GB Community making awesome stuff all the time. It's an honor to be in such stellar company.
Ha I imagine if Giant Bomb ever wanted to expand its design team, they could fill quite a few positions with those of us designing cool things around here!
So I just wanted to formally say thank you to the duders and dudettes, and I'm glad to be a subscribing member. Can't wait to see what happens in the next year!
Couldn't have said it better. I had nothing to do with this, but this is exactly how i feel about the community, even though i don't participate too much...
oh and the designs for the awesomely named Jurassic Lark is totally rad.
Not gonna lie.... Every single one of these is fucking terrible.... They are all cliche'd or dumb, or just plain ugly...
There's some great artists on this site, i'm hoping they are just biding their time, and will show up with something awesome in a few days.
A lot of the designs are rough drafts or ideas that are still "work in progress". This isn't a weird attack or anything, i just want to know if you have any ideas that you wouldn't consider cliche or dumb?
@Bizzama: yeah, i was having a hard time seeing where Pope's face began and ended with the lighter blue background (i do have a slight colorblindness, so maybe it's just me). I do like the alternate background color choices! Easier to look at!
@Bizzama: the more i look at the one without glasses, the more i think the glasses are needed. Just wondering, have you tried using different background colors?
Anyway, this is what I managed to whip up in an hour or so. It's in the same vein as the Hardcore Dave shirt, and it could use some polishing, but the idea's still there. I apologize in advance for any inaccuracies, the original picture is super low res.
That's really cool. I think to make it work like the original still does you need to be able to see the look of hope, exhiliration, expectation etc. in the faces so probably needs a least some mouths and maybe eyes - could still be kept minimalistic though. Well done for the effort though - the original certainly is quite low-res that you're going off of.
@aurahack: i like the second design, may i suggest having the two guys behind Brad subtly characterized to be Patrick with beers in his hands and Eric Pope?
