games.doc

One day, back during my college years at a friend's house, I had the grand idea of trying to write down every game I had beaten. It ended up being a large brainstorming session trying to get the initial list formed, and since then I've been adding to the end whenever I complete something. That's why the beginning of the list is in alphabetical order; when I was finished initially, the document file I was keeping (games.doc) I sorted. Since then I've kept any new additions in the order I've beaten them, which has been a nice look back and see the patterns in what I've been playing.

6/24/20: A GIANT WORK IN PROGRESS! Adding everything will take awhile and I've always wanted to write a little about each game (years ago I was doing this on Twitter for new additions), so everything might be kind of slapdash for some time.

.hack//INFECTION - Part 1

Never owned any of the .hack games myself, just remember borrowing them from a friend as they came out.
.hack//MUTATION - Part 2

At some point you would think the repetitive structure would get tiring, but I guess I'm just a sucker for JRPG grinds. The fake MMO made for a unique and engaging story to work through, even across multiple games.

Yet, I only ever made it to the second to last part. Largely in part because I'm pretty sure the friend I was borrowing them from never got Quarantine, and I never got around to getting it on my own.
.hack//G.U. Vol. 1: Rebirth

Then G.U. came around, keeping a lot of the appeal of the original series' story structure while being much more fun to play.

And yet, hilariously again I never went beyond the second to last chapter. Maybe someday I'll see the ends of both main .hack series.
1080° Snowboarding

Pretty sure this was only ever a rental for me, but one of those rentals you played hard enough to finish before returning.
3D Dot Game Heroes

This was just oozing with charm for anyone with the slightest bit of affection for games from the period it was imitating.
Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Dual Strike is the only Advance Wars game I really sunk into, but it was absolutely addicting and had such a long lifespan with unlockables. I don't always become a completionist, but some games can keep me going long past the main campaign, and this was one of them.
All Kamen Rider: Rider Generation

Around the time when Fourze was airing, I fell pretty deep into a Kamen Rider hole and checking this game out was part of that period.
Altered Beast

This is one of the entries I made in the initial list that I'm going to have to reevaluate at some point. Did I ever actually beat this, or just play it a bunch? Only way to remember for sure will be to do it (again?) for real.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent

This was always the perfect kind of mix for my fondness for horror games and my fondness for Myst-like puzzle games.
Another Century's Episode Portable

A series I always heard about because of my mech love, but this was the only entry I ever gave a shot. Maybe it just didn't resonate with me from being the PSP entry, but I don't remember being too fond of it.
Assassin's Creed

It's always weird to look back on the original Assassin's Creed now with how far the series has come, but nothing really beats that final twist.
Assassin's Creed II

Much more a pleasurable memory overall than the first, and yet so much of it gets tied up between itself and the two followups that it becomes hard to differentiate.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

An interesting thing at the time of writing this: I was always somehow a couple entries behind in playing Assassin's Creed games. Only recently did I focus and get myself caught up, but that will come waaaay later on.
Asura's Wrath

Maybe heavy on the quick-time events, but such a gorgeous game and an absolute blast to experience. I really need to go back in for the DLC at some point, because can I say for sure I've beaten it when I haven't truly seen the ending?
Avengers in Galactic Storm

All I can remember is this feeling and looking like garbage, and honestly, just look at those models.
Banjo-Kazooie

Rare games from their Nintendo era hooked me when I was younger like nothing else. More than anything else I can recall, this game (and Tooie) are when I was so deep into the communities around picking apart a game's code, and the whole Stop'n'Swap saga is something I'll never forget, up to those codes being released to actually get all of the eggs and the ice key.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

I played this far later due to generally being behind a generation on Microsoft consoles, but more fun than it deserved to be.

Tooie is fine, but it also just felt a bit maybe a little too bloated compared to the original.
Batman: Arkham Asylum

Battle Stadium D.O.N

This came out in the height when some friends and I were hooked on imported Gamecube games thanks to the Freeloader, mostly the Naruto and One Piece releases. This was an interesting Smash Brothers-alike, but didn't see as much play as any of the Gekitou Ninja Taisen games.
Bayonetta

This was originally a rental, played over the course of a day in (mostly) one sitting. What a hell of a day that was.
BioShock
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

I was originally wary of BlazBlue, if only because of how much of it initially seemed like just a worse version of Guilty Gear.
BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend

Yet as the series continued on and the plot got more and more unfathomable, it found more of a place in my heart.
Bleach GC: Tasogare ni Mamieru Shinigami

Falls into the Battle Stadium D.O.N. camp of getting blind with power of having a Freeloader for Gamecube. Not the best and was quickly left behind.
Bleach: Blade Battlers

I remember enjoying this.
Bleach Soul Resurrección

From what I remember, this was the first actually localized Bleach game. Remember it being just okay.
Blood Will Tell: Tezuka Osamu's Dororo

I will always fight for this game, and think it never got as much credit as it deserved. Not the most refined in its action, perhaps, but the story of collecting your body parts led to some really cool moments (if I remember right, the game wasn't in color until early on you recovered your eyes?).
