It was right after the glam era, but before the explosion of grunge. Fashion seemed to be just jeans & a t-shirt, and there were no fads like "Flannel" or "Bell-bottoms". The music was very alternative, with the Pixies, Stone Roses, R.E.M, Skinny Puppy, & King's X.
There's just something about 1989 that can't age, because nothing defined it. Even the movies, "Born on the Fourth of July", & "Glory" don't seem like 80's movies. The Ninja Turtles Arcade machine came out in 1989, and that game still looks, sounds, and plays well.
