My top 10 games of 2014.

Games, they're still fun!

Finding the right place for some games was hard this year since I didn't have the time to complete some of them, put I'm pretty happy with the final result. A lot of Japanese games this year as well, which is fun!

Shout-out to this years runner ups, Wolfenstein: The New Order & Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney who almost made the list.

List items

  • I absolutely loved this game! Great characters, interesting story, amazing music & fantastic (japanese) voice acting made this an instant gem in my game collection.

  • I'm still angry at this game for taking so damn long in european localisation, but man was it worth the wait! The music! The controls! The art! I love it all! A love letter to the games I grew up with and still love, it feels like this game was made for me.

  • Danganronpa home run! The sequel is almost as good as the original, but I feel the characters were a little weaker and the writing wasn't as good. Or maybe I'm so in love with the first one that it's clouding my judgement.

  • More Persona 4 story is something I'll always crave. That alone places this game high on my list, but combine that with the Golden Arena mode and I can see myself spending a lot of time with this game in the future.

  • I wish I could've completed this game before making this list, but I sadly didn't have the time. The story is fun and the writing and music is fantastic, but I'm not 100% sold on the gameplay. I find it a little too hard for my liking though, maybe because I'm not that familiar with the dungeon crawling genre. Luckily for me there are some easier difficulty levels.

  • This game is really pretty, the writing is great and it's characters are for the most part very likeable, but the games most impressive piece, it's size, is also it's weakest. I'm about 40 hours as I write this and I'm having a hard time focusing. There's too much to do, always something that needs to be done just within your reach, which takes some urgency away from the main story. When I get around to doing the main story quests though the game shines, and that places it in the middle of my list.

  • I love me some Smash, and with my favorite video game character of all time, Mega Man, finally joining the battle this is my new favorite game in the series. Really looking forward to some long gaming sessions with friends.

  • I never played the first Bayonetta, and after playing this I really need to. The controls feels fantastic, it looks fantastic and it's pure video game dumbness. Like many have said before, this is a must-have.

  • Two things made me love this game, it's art and it's music (still listening to the sound like once a week). The world inside the game is interesting, and the way you unlock more of the story, by using the different skills you get, makes you step out of your comfort zone and experiment more with the combat.

Supergiant Games have now made two fantastic games and I can't wait to see what they have planned next!

  • Few games have made me laugh as much as Jazzpunk did. It's hard to say too much about it without spoiling it, all I can say is that everyone should give it a try. Really, you should play it. Go buy it. Right now. Go.
