Hentai games with good plots

Shocking, I know, but some of these games do have really compelling plots. Many of these don't have a ton of sex in them because they don't even need it.

List items

  • One of the few games on this list with good gameplay to boot, Princess Waltz with minimal alteration could easily be cleaned up and ported to console, or used to make a new anime series. About 10 hours long through all paths, the few sex scenes are actually not superfluous.

  • One of my favorite games of the genre and fairly recent to boot. Displacing nostalgia is a pretty impressive feat. Koihime Musou reimagines the plot of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms epic novel as a war waged by formidable female generals.

  • I wouldn't say Sengoku Rance has the BEST plot in the world, but it's certainly fleshed out after a nearly 25 year history and over 10 games and expansions on the longest-running adult series ever made. What it does have is charm in spades. A charming world, charming characters, all unfortunately locked up in a reality with an egomaniacal sociopathic rapist "hero" protagonist. The fact that the gameplay (Real gameplay!) is fantastic doesn't hurt at all. Easily a 30+ hour game, not even counting the branching paths that alter the plot completely.

  • An occult thriller with a twist ending. A classic that should not be missed. Many of the CG images are devoted to plot points and gore all for the purpose of telling a compelling horror story.

  • What can I say about Family project? It's a really dark and depressing game with bright moments, and is considered to be one of the best written hentai games of all time. Still, everyone in this game is pretty fucked up, no matter how good the character development is. Sometimes you just want to play a downer, though.

  • Something of a sci-fi thriller, You end up trying to solve a mystery at a base on the moon, which is obviously staffed almost exclusively by women (because they've been scientifically proven to be superior at being able to stay in confined spaces or something). You feel kind of clever when you find out who the killer/mastermind is the first time you beat it, only to go back and try a different path and discover it's actually someone else. I can't tell if the "facts" presented in all of the different plot outcomes are all canonical (so weird using that word for a hentai game), but as it stands it seems like 3 or 4 people are independently trying to destroy the base in some fashion, unbeknownst to each other. It's a clever little ride if you take each trip through at face value and try not to over-think it.
