I don't know anyone IRL who plays video games. All of my friends who game play board games and D&D. So I am currently suffering through Carcasonne on Board Game Arena and participating in a Star Wars D&D campaign just for the sake of being social.
Meanwhile, I've just been playing Red Dead Online by myself riding around just me an my horse...
The original cover shooter! That game doesn't get enough credit! I'm sure the timing is debatable but it was the first time I remember hearing about cover mechanics.

I've been struggling with this one because I don't know how "unpopular" these games actually were:
NES: Blaster Master
SNES: Uniracers
N64: F-Zero GX, Mystical Ninja starring Goemon
PS2: Project Snowblind
PS3: Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, Pixel Junk Eden
I'm playing through Link's Awakening DX for the first time right now and I am blown away by how good it is! That being said, most of my amazement stems from the developers taking elements of gameplay, graphics and sound from A Link to the Past and shoehorning them onto the Game Boy.
I think Link to the Past will always have the edge, but if Link's Awakening ever got a proper 16-bit remake and support for a controller with more buttons so you don't have to switch items quite so frequently you might actually have a quandary on your hands.
