@The_Laughing_Man: Good for you that your online pseudonym was mentioned in a you tube video. Everyone has to be proud of something and you're moving up in the world!
@Getz: I disagree. Tower defense games ARE easy and cheap to make. And they sell like crazy. FPS require more resources and customers are usually more picky. Also, that genre never got old since Wolfenstein 3D. Heck I still play Quake3 and that came out supposedly when FPS as a concept was getting old.
Buy your tower defense games, people! I don't really give a shit. I am part of the problem, I bought Trenched too. Probably not gonna play it much, but whatever.
@The_Laughing_Man: Hey don't feel bad. I might not like the game, but they got my money too. I admire Schafer and the Double Fine folk, but this was just a cheap cash in for them in my opinion. They're trying to squeeze as many games as possible from their engine, and they asked themselves "What sells?". Of course, fucking Tower Defense.
I WISH TIM SCHAFER'S MOM WOULD DEFEND MY VEINY TOWER!!!!
I am looking forward to TNT though, because those Double Fine people know how to drink.
Tower defense games have become a plague of modern gaming. The variations Trenched brings to the genre are pathetic to say the least. I played it for a few minutes and realized that this is the problem:people keep buying this garbage, so they keep making more. XBox live, Steam and the Iphone App Store are overflowed with tower defense shit. They'll say that this one is special cuz it has the action component. Fuck that! That South Park tower defense did that and better. Encourage Double Fine to stop making shit and work on more original games like Stacking or Brutal Legend.
Let's say Jeff would have an unfortunate accident. What would the others do?
- Will there be a special edition Bombcast and how awkward would that be? - Will they do a crazy video montage? Will we see a collage of Jeff's best Giant Bomb moments? Will Ryan Davis cry? - Will the site still exist after that or will it be all downhill from there?
First of all, I am really impressed with Ryan's review of this game, I think it's maybe one of the best written reviews on the site this year.
Now, I'm a fan of the original Alice, but I wasn't looking forward for Madness Returns for a simple reason: I don't think 3D platformers work anymore. Jumping around from one island to the next is not intuitive at all in this type of games, and the camera is universally problematic. Back in 2001, this genre was very popular, so Alice was one of the stand-out games due to its unique subject matter. Nowadays, I just don't see a purpose for game mechanics like this. Fortunately, after 2 hours of playing Alice 2 I am enjoying the game somewhat, but I think it's mostly due to the fantastic look and the great soundtrack. I really like the "adventure" parts, and I think some of the voice acting is great. But the level design and combat are lacking, in my opinion. They just seem archaic and clumsy.
Also, I find it funny that some people complain to EA that they didn't get their pre-order dresses with the game. Just the idea of male gamers upset that they can't change Alice's DRESS is..
Edit: Nevermind actually I saw a video with those DLC dresses and they're badass. I might actually buy them right now.
