Failed. I hit a kid 10 minutes in but missed his friend so lost points for "witnesses left behind".

@ps4_fanboy:

DON'T AIM

If you're having trouble aiming, don't do it. Pick a PDW, use it until you get a foregrip and laser sight and forget the left trigger for a while. The bullet drop on these guns is quite high so don't shoot over a distance, but back in BF3 a M5K or MP7 (two low damage PDWs) were brilliant in tight spaces.

THE OTHER REASON is that bigger scopes take longer to aim. An 8x scope takes about half a second, but a Kobra sight with no zoom takes a tenth of a second. Sounds insignificant but it all matters.

DON'T RELOAD

Get out of the habit of reloading after four or five shots. Reloading can take as long as eight seconds on big guns, or as low as two seconds on a pistol. An M1911 pistol will fire just about as fast as you can pull the trigger, or a G18 can empty it's small clip in a few seconds on full auto. My point is if you're being pursed pick when you reload carefully, or better yet switch to your pistol. Don't treat your pistol as that seldom used second gun, it's your emergency weapon and will save your life more than grenades.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'RE PROBABLY DOING WRONG

  • Newbies sprint too much ... do it when you have to get between cover, not when enemies are close ... a second to stop sprinting, a second to aim, a second to bring up the scope, a few miliseconds for bullet velocity ... it all adds up.
  • Don't aim all the time, hip fire first then bring up your scope in close combat.
  • Don't knife guys unless 100% sure you're safe. It takes time and can backfire easily.
  • Shotguns in tight maps are brilliant, but you'll be exposed while loading shells. They take ages. Risk/reward.
  • DON'T empty your clip. That one in the chamber reduces reload by up to a full second.
  • If you use an support class gun, like a big M249, use the mount and and fire in bursts. Surpress, surpress, surpress. It pisses people off as much as bitch snipers, but fuck them. Support class is designed to for medium range crowd control.

USE YOUR FUCKING PACKS!! There's nothing worse than a medic who won't revive people or throw down health OR a support class who won't throw down ammo packs. Throw it ANYWHERE. People will find it, use it and you get the experience points.

You don't have to kill people or be the leader to contribute. Hang back and heal, be the gunner on a tank, repair vehicles... You get rewarded just for helping out.

STICK WITH IT. I know you'll grow to love this game. I haven't played BF4 yet, this is from 250 hours of BF3. And I suck at that game compared to most people... but I love it. And I know I'll love BF4 on PS4 soon enough.

On a side note: a second Arthur Gies review where a game isn't an 8 + because.... "a special something" bascially? Okay dude. I guess I'm probably just so anti him at this moment.

Ask me a few years ago and I'd say he's ok... now he's become a pretentious wanker. I could care less what most of the self-important douchebags at Polygon think anymore. Except Justin McElroy, he seems ok.

Wait. I like games. And I like music. And I also like books. OMG! What am I?!?!?!

I started to write the exact(ish) same thing and saw your comment.

Here's a new question: Who cares what kind of gamer you define yourself as? And who is asking you anyway?

I love going to the movies when I can. I mostly see the raft of comic book adaptions ... should I define myself as a "comic book movie guy!?". Fuck that.

What is a magazine reader?

Someone who reads magazines

However, this is problematic again because what if I really enjoyed cars and then I reviewed a Wedding Magazine as horrible and sexist because it had no cars in it.

What if I was a fashion designer and I reviewed hunting monthly and insulted the magazine for men having bad fashion and street ware.

This problem that is happening here is a magazine reader insulting a magazine in which they are not the intended target audience.

What about movie reviewers? Well if I was an action/comedy movie watcher it would be unfair for me to critically rate movies that were solely romantic or drama based.

Here lies the rub; the term “Gamer” is now too generic to be used to describe any one person. Much like saying I listen to music, I like movies or I read.

This never used to be the case however, as games used to be very limited and harder to access. Gaming cabinets being the only means or your dad’s 486 computer.

As games are easier to access so too does the demographic change. I.E how could you appreciate music if you had no access to it. The Nintendo Wii and rise in smart phones has increased the amount of other demograph’s in gaming.

Why were people so upset when gamer Carolyn Petit reviewed GTA V and called it Misogynistic? For two reasons perhaps, she is a gamer but she is not the intended demo graph for that game. In her position as the unintended audience she marked the game lower then she would of if she had been in the targeted demographic. She could have argued that the game was not inclusive to her world view, but this leads to the second reason that people were upset by the review. The second reason would be that the characters in the game are well researched characters based off interviews from FBI, and prisoners.

.....

I will finish with this.. As gamers gets more diverse games will naturally change to meet the demand of the gamers. An example of this is Mass Effect or the latest Tomb Raider. Don’t get annoyed because the core targeted demographic for a video game is not you, just pay for a game in which you are the intended demographic. Just like magazines, movies or books or other media.

All these labels and conjecture about someones reasons for scoring a game lower than YOU would like is strange. Game reviews are subjective. It's not a statement of fact but opinion. If they feel that a game's particular worldview annoys them to the point that it harms their enjoyment they should say so and mark the game down. It's a personal reviews.

Then you go on to say we need MORE labels because the definition of 'gamer' has broadened. Who needs these labels? Marketing guys or PR departments? I play Bookworm on my iPhone, Pokemon X on my 3DS, Last of Us on PS3, imported Phantasy Star Online 2 for my Vita and have hundreds of hours in Battlefield 3 on Xbox 360. I don't need a label. I don't think I'd even fit into YOUR rigid world view.

Really ask yourself -- who do these labels serve? Who is asking for them? Do the people who want these labels "gamers"? Or are they people who don't understand the hobby anyway?

CD playback will be enabled at launch!!

The USB cord for the controller will be twice as long!!

Or, more likely ... some first part studio will have a new game coming for the PS4 and there will be a trailer for the Last of Us story DLC.

Probably Vinny. He plays games, even ones he'd borrowed or got from work, like he owns them. He plays for fun but also has a mad completionist streak.

Definitely not Jeff or Brad. They go nuts on certain games and don't like or play a lot of the games I do. I've never had a game addiction like Brad with DOTA and I'm far more willing to let a game be what it is rather than get made at it for not being what I want it to be like Jeff. And Jeff just seems so, so down on games in general and has for years.

I respect Patrick's willingness to try new things and really try at it. I can see a little bit of myself in his tastes.

Ryan ability to commit to a game but still see it's fault is like me too.

I totally get Drew's love of simulations, even if I don't play them.

And where is the Alex option? I think he's a bit like Ryan... he can criticise a game but still show a lot of love for it.

But really, as the years roll on I'm struggling to find ANYONE to identify with that's part of the Giant Bomb crew.
