I don't know. D3 is such a fantastic game, but they can't patch what is ultimately my biggest problem with it; the atmosphere.
And I'm not necessarily talking about just the visual style, that's only one piece of it. The overwrought and highly flawed writing, the cartoonish animations, the voiceacting, the auction house, the online intrusions, etc; all of this make Diablo 3 feel like a "videogame", and not an "experience". There is no atmosphere anymore; I don't feel like I'm in an actual, dreadful place like Diablo 2 made me feel.
Everything piece of it just feels shallow and compromised in order to feed into the auction house, the one thing that ruins the whole point of Diablo. It's tragic.
I agree.
The visual style still looks "wow-like" with round, cartoony textures where most noticeable are things like piles of logs in new tristram and the game has this drab filter over it probably in response to the criticisms of it being too colorful. As someone who played wow and d2 like crazy, the compromise they did didn't work.
Anyways, I still loved the game and put over a hundred hours in. I haven't even gotten to the last difficulty yet and it's already challenging and I love the new skill system. Feels like I get a new skill every time I level.
My personal gripe is that I wish normal difficulty didn't exist. I liked the story and the cg movies were damn impressive, but normal was so damn easy it completely sucked away any tension, build up, or immersion the story and cg has done every time you fight the "lords" of hell. They die in seconds, roll credits, and I get a splash screen telling me to go play new game+.
I still love you d3 and hope d4 comes out with even better success.
