Just about to start watching this, so apologies if it comes up in the video - but did anyone else read the Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys Super Mysteries growing up? God I loved those.
@passivespiral: @doombot13: @efesell: I'm not referring to Dan's gaming opinions as my basis for Dan being a "terrible person," which is admittedly hyperbolic and harsh. What I'm referring to is the numerous stories Dan has told about his own actions, present and past. Go back and listen to those bombcasts around when he came on. When someone bases there whole personality, at least publiclly, as being an annoying heel, don't be surprised when he rubs people the wrong way. Dan had gotten a lot better since he has came on, and toned it way back but he is pretty bad sometimes. And yes, using used popcorn containers and cups taken from the public trash is gross and a fucking health hazard.
I've heard all his Bombcast stories, find his heel persona annoying, agree the popcorn container story was gross (But Funny), am not surprised he can rub people the wrong way - and agree your comment was hyperbolic and harsh.
However if you want to say he's a "terrible person" for his Assassin's Creed comments, I'm totally on bored - j/k...maybe ;)
This may have been the legitimately the best Beastcast to date. (sorry Alex!)
Margaret (what even is that accent!) and Jeremiah had me cracking up so bad. Great bits. Top tier.
Also if you didn't know already, this episode is perfect proof that 95% of Dan's opinions are contradictory and no basis in fact or reason, and that he is pretty gross. There is no "Heel Dan." It's just Dan and he kinda... well, you know, kinda a terrible person. He has enthusiasm for games, no doubt, and some occasional humor but other that that...
Oh wait I should preface that with "IMO" because it make it all right. That's how that works right?
No, if you are calling someone a terrible person then saying "IMO" probably doesn't make it all right...
@joey_ravn: @kick_puncher: For those asking about Zelda BotW spoilers the conversation is right after the first commercial break, 35:15 to 38:00 minutes, and then leads into a discussion about Dan planning to go back to replay and try to finally finish Zelda II. I didn't think it was bad, but If you are sensitive to spoilers it's something you'll probably want to skip.
Edit: They do wrap around after the Zelda II discussion to some post game open world Zelda BotW comments so skip to after the 40 min mark when they start talking about Prey if you want to be super careful.
Abby has been such a good hire. Her and Vinny are great together. Alot of people complaining about Abby...have you watched a Ben Pack video......
I have and they are fantastic.
Yeah, what the fuck is up with some of the people in this community lately? They're both fantastic hires and real good people.
I think that Dan moving from the West to East and then the two new hires coming on has changed the dynamics of the site for both teams. There's a lot of passionate GB fans and some of them aren't thrilled with some of the changes. I think that's fine and people should be allowed to leave that feedback (as opposed to just saying nothing and going away which is not good for the site), as long as they aren't being mean, and others shouldn't attack them for it. It's not reasonable to expect everyone to like every member of the staff and every video, but hopefully there is enough variety so everyone has someone/something they do like.
Does anyone know if there is a connection between Arkane and Irrational? Like, did the Arkane founders previously work work there on games like System Shock and Bioshock? Dishonored and Prey seem very similar in gameplay and design to the point where if I didn't know better I would think they are Ken Levine directed games.
I don't know if there's a connection between Arkane and Irrational, but there is between Arkane and Looking Glass; the folks behind Thief (Dishonored) and System Shock (Prey). Mike Mahardy did a pretty good piece on Arkane and their roots over at GameSpot a month or two ago.
Thanks for the article suggestion. Now that I am home from work and looking into it more, it does look like Arkane helped on Bioshock 2 before they were acquired by Bethesda.
