Reno native here and I can confirm pretty much everything Jeff said. It's definitely not a walking town, guns are HUGE and pretty easy to get, basically all casinos downtown are gross with hilariously bad acts advertised (Peppermill and GSR may be the only exceptions).
We do get our fair share of snow in town (this year is unusual). Downtown and a few bad areas aside, it's actually not too bad once you get in the suburbs. Also, being about 45 mins to an hour away from Tahoe and about a dozen other lakes and campgrounds is cool if you like being outdoors.
FYI duders, I work for a company that designs, builds, and installs slot machines so if you have any questions related to casino gaming or slots I'd be glad to assist (or do my best at least). It was a little weird when I first started my job to see Konami as a direct competitor, they have a casino gaming office near my work and I always do a double take when I drive by.
