I say about goddamn time this passed, and I personally think that it's sad that it was such a struggle just to get up to this point. I look back on the discrimination cast upon the masses of homosexuals throughout the decades of the U.S., and I can stand up a little straighter- no, walk a bit more prouder!- knowing that finally there is justice for the gays and lesbians of America. Though it be a small step, I have optimism in knowing that the gay rights movements are gaining in both strength and momentum, and soon there might just be marriage to anyone, no matter what their sexual orientation. I think Bob Dylan put it best when he uttered the now-famous words: "The times, they are a-changin'".
All jokes aside, I read your commentary of the game through-and-through and I dare say that I cannot help but agree. I feel as though I am trapped between two sides of me in which one side (the more cynical of the two) urges me to write off the game as cheap and last-century, whilst the other is shaking his head thoroughly and chuckling to himself, replaying the genuinely good memories that I had throughout my entire playthrough of the game. DP is certainly a unique specimen (one-of-its-kind, I do say!) and I must say that in the years 2010-2011 that is no easy feat. The game does exactly what the opposite of modern "good" games have evolved towards at this point, and in doing so becomes more memorable than most (if not all) of its peers. DP is simply a game that is not confined to the words and numbers of the game journalist; it is an experience I recommend all gamers to have, share, and remember. With that said, I look forward for the potential future of this game and SWERY's next project, though with this fine, odd creation of his that is Deadly Premonition, his next game will find it hard to top.
Really interesting article. I found myself nodding along and muttering agreement when Caballero stated "When I was a kid and going through difficult times, games actually saved me. It was the only space where I could be in control and... experience safety, and predictability in a way. Everything outside was crazy." How true. Indeed, I am now more intrigued than before about his game; looks like I'm gonna fire up my PS3 once more when it hits.
