They are so incredibly different from each other I really don't see them having a conflict. If you want a pve game with loot you have no choice but to go with Anthem. Apex Legends is nothing but battle royale. Now if this was about Battlefield V and it's battle royale mode then I would agree.

Speaking of which, when is that BF V Battle royale mode coming out? Last I checked its March of this year.

To preface, This is the first battle royal game I've played but I played alot of Titanfall 2 when it came out . All that said I'm really enjoying Apex Legends! Had a bunch of friend who switched over from siege (temporarily for some) and we had a n absolute blast this weekend.

One design choice I like is how the did the characters, as they just have the 3 abilities, and nothing else. Not trying to say how hero shooters do their character design is a bad thing, as I really did enjoy playing alot of Overwatch. This eliminates having a situation where you would lose a fight just because you are hard countered by that character.

One other thing I love other than the down but not out system works for playing with friends, as discussed by many people above.

Huh that is disappointing, though whats more disappointing is the fact PC users (such as myself) cannot purchase that DLC yet. Dunno why Steam has been slacking but I'll have to wait till they release it.

DLC wise I have Captianless squad and just got the two Valkyria. Now I just need to wait for the squad 7 dlc ( and maybe Eddy's DLC). I feel like I can skip on the other 2 since I still have to beat the hard skirmishes.

I just beat it a few days ago and didn't want to dive deep into this post until I had done so.

Overall I had a great time with this game, and found it one of the my most enjoyable gaming experience in recent memory. Playing it is challenging and rewarding and there is honestly few games out there like it, other than the other entries in the series.

-Pros

Command mode I felt was great as there were maps where you needed to use it to get around some points of the maps. Despite really liking the APC, I feel like command mode allowed for a more infantry focused strategy, or at least allowing for me doing a 2 front assault while making good pace.

I do like how in chapter 16 they make you have to Sacrifice a squad mate with Raz. Not only was it unexpected (as the cut scene from earlier from the intro has you believe all the MCs survive) but also the squad mate has a lot of unique interactions.

-Cons

I do agree that presentation needed a bit of work as a lot of assets felt like they were reused, or at least could have been improved for today's standards. As someone who likes listening to the game's soundtrack, I noticed how many tracks were reused from the first game. I would like to see unique animations per character, but I guess the team had a limited budget.

Another thing I really wished for was that they could fix up the AI so that they could stop running into my troops blindly. The first time I encounter Nikola, and Chiara, one of them literally died from running into the Hafen!

Great post, looking forward to playing all the dlc now.

@giant_gamer:

From your post, I don't believe you have watched the video which @wolfstein_3d: has posted earlier. This was a very informative video and talks about "EA's card packs" Obsession from both sides so please do watch it.

If not, let me quickly sum up points in the video that relate to your statement.

  • FIFA 2007 introduced card packs in their ultimate team team mode, which were initially earned through in game money.
  • These card packs would affect your progression in game and do not focus on cosmetics.
  • FIFA 2009 executive's producer, Andrew Wilson brought this mode in to the option to pay for these card packs with real money.
  • This system would become a well renowned system in EA and slowly be integrated in all their games. With in a few years, the FIFA Ultimate mode alone would make an increasing amount of money through this mode. In 2014 EA made $380 million from this mode alone.
  • Andrew Wilson would become CEO of EA in 2013.
  • 2012's Mass Effect 3 would become the first non sports video game to have purchasable loot boxes. These were heavily based on the FIFA card packs as Bioware would work with FIFA developers on these.
  • EA's development costs have gone down over the past few years, ever since the highest point in 2009.
  • Overwatch's loot boxes have not been a strong form of revenue as EA's loot boxes.
  • Non video related point: Hearthstone was first released in Beta in fall of 2013 and fully release in April 2014 ONLY on desktops.

TL:DR "EA's card packs" were implemented back in 2007, and Andrew Wilson, EA's current CEO, gave the idea of making them purchasable in 2009. EA profits a fair amount off these "card packs", which will: affect game play, were not made to be for cosmetics and were implemented in non sports games ever since Mass Effect 3 in 2012.

Reigns, the first one, though I've seen good things about the sequel too.

Its cheap, simple (you literally swipe left or right to choose 1 of 2 outcomes) but most importantly its entertaining. It also is an offline game for those traveling around alot.

The game is basically you're a king and make choices that will affect the people of your kingdom. With each choice one aspect will be affected positively, say millitary or faith, where other will be affected negatively, say economy. There is also witty humor throughout the game and I've spent quite some time on the that game.

I'm going to have to try XCOM2 at some point, I guess. This sounds like a lot of content for the price.

Defiantly, its a solid game with the WOTC expansion ! Just make sure to get it before Dec 3 ;)

A new DLC pack was just announced and ITS FREE (for all WOTC owners and $7.99 after dec 3) launching on Oct 9, only on PC.

There are a few legacy story missions packed in there taking place between Xcom 1 and Xcom2, with returning weapons and maps from xcom 1. There will be a new skirmish battle creation mode, and an offline challenge mode to replay all challenges to your heart's content.

Its quite a bit of content which I would recommend reading from the source. Also here is a pretty in depth video about the dlc and the behind the scenes on making it

Personally I'm excited there is another content drop for one of my favorite games I played last year, with the added bonus of it being free. I hope Giant bomb will pick up this DLC up for their return on exquisite corps. The legacy missions seem to have the added bonus of being a sandbox to teach the game's many mechanics, with a scoring system to encourage replay and player improvement.

Thats a shame, I remember helped repopularized the "action adventure" genre back in 2012 with Walking Dead Season 1. I heard they were switching to Unity a while back, to help out with engine issues but that didn't seem to help them out. Its been a hard week for video game developers also with Capcom Vancouver being shut down, hope all those affected find a job soon.
