Poor man's blues

 Look familiar?
 Look familiar?
It's a hot late spring day, can't be bothered to go outside since my knee is hurting. I need to get a new game and I have my sights on several ones, though I don't have the financial stability to get them all. Bugger, I know. So I'm looking at these games;

The cheapest one at this moment is Conviction, though I'm wondering if I should get one over the other for the price instead of value per hour spent on it at this point. I loved the previous Splinter Cell but I've heard it's not the longest game and the only friend I know that has the game to play the campaign ops with has already done it so it's not really the same.

I've heard a lot of good things on Alan Wake and even though I'm no fan of "survival horror"-esque games, I'm genuinely curious about it. Plus I have always been a follower of Remedy's work, Max Payne.

The last one is more of a wild card since it's just been released and up until now I've been what Jeff is in his 3-star image, waving my hand while going "eeeeh...?". But the latest reviews, trailers and lastly the GB quick look has changed me more towards Ryan's 4-star image where I tighten my fists with glee. I've felt I've been fed up with open world games mostly from GTA4 and my latest game The Saboteur, but maybe this is just different enough to have a go at?

Which game should one take a stab at when he can only afford one game?
(renting is not an option where I'm at so no point in suggesting that)

I would go for either Alan Wake or Red Dead. These games give much more than Splinter Cell. Alan Wake is a very story heavy game, while Red Dead is a sandbox giving you a lot to do, the setting is also quite uncommon, so it feels different from the usual city-based open world games. So if you look at the money to content ratio these are definitely above SC.

Well, RDR is leaps and bounds better than The Saboteur. I'll tell ya that much right now.

Well, it depends, if you have a buddy to play with SC Conviction might just be the one for you. Do you like co-op games?
Do you like shooting people in the head? Pick SC.
Do you like cool-lookin' western style games, heavier on story? Pick RDR.
Do you like eerie small-town investigations and sleepless nights? Pick Alan Wake

Really, just go watch the quick looks for RDR and Alan Wake, that should give you more than enough
information to make your own decision about this stuff. I hope you pick one you enjoy!

Alan Wake is kinda short and has a low replay value. But a good game. I've not played the others yet :<

@h0lgr: I humbly thank you for more or less repeating exactly what I wrote in my post with a Q&A.
Getting deja vu from being in contact with EA customer support. Ever worked there? =)

But whatever, I'm  just tryin to help you decide. Just sharing with you what I know.

I would go with red dead. I am playing it now and it so addicting. The best part about it is you get lost in the world. You are on your waying to go start a mission and then a random occurance happens, like someone is being robbed and you decide to help them, or you see a wanted poster and go hunt the bounty, or you start hunting some rare animals for some extra cash. So if you going for something that is high quality, will give you the most play time, and is just a great time, then i would go with red dead.

No worries, mate. Haha I just got a reminder of the terrible response I got from EA support after I tried to get my Battlefield games registered for Veteran status.
Listed all my games with serial keys and all for it to be proper. All I got in reply was "hey did you check this faq?" and sent me a link to a FAQ about how to unlock the M1 rifle.. Uh.. yeah.. thanks. :)

Yeah the more I've looked at things, the more I'm leaning towards Red Dead. It looks really awesome and the weird bugs people have uploaded to youtube are hillarious.
