Games I have Beaten in 2015.

From January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015 - These are the games I have beaten to completion (unless otherwise noted).

List items

  • Jan 18, 2015 - I have always wanted to play through singularity ever since I heard about it release way back when. But it was one of those games that fell off the radar for me. But one day while in a EBGames I saw it on the shelf, and I shit you not, it was going for $0.81! So I bought the game then and there and again it went on the back burner for several months. Fast forward to now, and I decided a few days ago to sit down and get this one good and done.

I will skip to the bad parts for this one since it really was a generic shooter but in fairness the gun play was fun, the powers were interesting (when I used them) and the environments were good and rusty.

Bad: Non-regenerating health and a hard limit on the number of health kits you can carry from the start hurt my enjoyment of the game. I am not saying I suck, but you also have a finite amount of ammo on you too. In a game like this, I expect if I poke my nose around long enough I should have way more than enough ammo and health to deal with anything (like I always did in games like doom or duke nukem), but in the game I found myself finishing fights and having almost no ammo left, and only picking scraps of ammo off of enemies.

All in all, this was a decent game with a B story line which was well worth the 81 cents I payed for it.

  • March 8, 2015 - I was starting to get sick of not beating videogames. Like it had been a couple of month now, and all I have been doing is playing Heroes of the Storm and Counter Strike GO all the time. I realized that one of the things preventing me from picking the games to beat was the daunting size of my steam library. At this point I own 500 games on steam, so I thought just yesterday, ok lets make a sub-list of games, maybe 15 - 20 of them that I actively want to beat, just to say I did and remove from my computer.

I did just that, and one of the games that made the cut was Halo: Spartan Assault. I had heard it was a small game, and that I could beat it quickly and get it off of my digital plate.

I will say it again, I must be a cheap date, because I actually enjoyed this little title quite a bit. I was only 3 hours long, and its a dual joystick shooter, but the game really does well to capture the feel of halo's combat.

Halo has always been defined by its combat puzzles, which forced players to scavenge weapons and supplies from their enemies to survive. And this game does that, you are given weapons to start, but within seconds you can pick up more weapons and defeat the enemy any way you want. For only having comic book style narrated cut scenes it also does a great job to create a story that could exist in the halo universe.

So what can I say, it's short, its not at all the type of shooter halo has been before, but I liked this title for what it was. I bought it for like under $4 and I got more than a movies worth our of it. If there was one knock against the game, it would be replay value - It really shows that this game started its root in mobile - as you play levels you are scored on how fast you beat them, how many aliens you kill, and how fast you kill them and are rated out of 3 starts for how many points you get. Obviously that kind of game, really doesn't lend it self to me, to replay it.

But yeah, it was ok and I would recommend it :)

  • March 22, 2015 - From my for-mentioned list, I picked another title that I had heard was ok, and was pretty sure I would only play through once - Dark Sector.

I had heard it was a decent 3rd person shooter with some small changes to the formula by giving the character a boomerang type weapon called the Glave.

Also side note - it becomes VERY apparent within the first 10 minutes of this game, that this was made by the same guys who are making millions off of the Warframe Franchise! Now warframes controls, graphics, and general feel of combat are 100x better than this, but lo-and-behold 10 minutes in your character gets infected with a virus that gives him a Warframe like arm and the Glave, which is actually a weapon in Warframe.

Back on track, what do you need to know about this game. Well it controls ok, not great. The game really wants you to use the glave more than anything because they actualy restrict the use of enemy weapons by giving them a timer before they break on you (apparently the guns all have "infected" sensors so if you pick them up, they shut down after 10 seconds or so.

This annoying thing is offset by the fact that the glave can by use unlimited times (since it comes back) and you can usually be-head enemies with a well aimed shot. Later in the game you also get a shield power and invisibility which helps with the timed weapons and scarce ammo for your weapons.

All in all, this game was ok. Its a generic third person shooter (with serviceable cover system and weapons etc.), boring levels but whatever, with a shoestring story line that barely holds it all together. But you have a cool boomerang and the combat is satisfying (especially 2/3rd in when you can perform stealth kills) and for a cheap price, it was well worth it.

  • April 7, 2015 - So ... way back when we all played Crysis 1 right? We all probably forgot about Warhead because who cares about anyone but Prophet and then a little bit later Crysis 2 came along.

What can I say about the game? It looks nice, there are lots of guns and attachments and the suit powers still kick ass. Oddly enough however the same thing happened to me in this game as it did in Crysis 1. By the end of the game I had buffed up my stealth so much that I could actively avoid combat all together - and due to all of the late game enemies having armour and becoming bullet sponges I decided to invisible my way through all of the late game levels (except for the very last combat encounter which forces you to fight hard enemies which I had to melee to death due to running out of bullets! HA).

Anyways the game was fine - good even. I will say I miss the jungle from the first one over the New York setting in this game quite a bit, but the game was still ok.

If you find it on sale on steam or origin, you could buy way worst than this game.

  • April 12, 2015 - Have you ever played Doom 3 and wondered what it would be like if instead of hell on Mars - hell on earth? Well think no more, I give you Legendary.

So what can I say about this? Hmmmm. It took me three hours to beat, it was a very average shooter with a character as likable as a sporke (yes - a spoon/fork) and there were 5 enemy types in total.

I will say I enjoyed the game but it was lacking in a lot of parts. I don't remember how much I bought it for... maybe a humble bundle? But I would not advise spending too much on this game.

It was an ok average shooter with the minimum number of enemy types and weapons to choose form to make it JUST OK.

The thing that I really enjoyed about it was the Gothic setting - aka me shooting werewolves and griffons in churches and stuff - but that was really the only noticeable thing about the game. If its on sale for less than 5 bucks - you could do worse.

  • April 25, 2015 - When I bought this game, I wasn't sure if I would ever like it. The reason being is that I suck at fighting games. Like god damn suck at them.

But I have enjoyed my time with the story campaign of MKX I must admit. It was tough but I was able to complete the (what feels like 50 fights) the campaign throws at you and enjoy my time with each character.

Now I will admit that during the more frustrating fights I said things, terrible things, things that must never be repeated or heard by anyone but myself - but I got through the game.

If I can add one more thing onto my "the game is pretty good, but not great" thing I have going on here I will say this - this game was a lot less enjoyable than that previous one. The previous one had more jokes and felt like a good comic book and a better story - In this one the women have less boob, the guys are a little less gun-ho, there was less nut hitting and the characters were less enthusiastic about everything. I don't know maybe its me but it wasn't the same vibe and to me it hurt the game just a bit.

  • May 9, 2015 - For the 2nd time, I took a hero (Colossus from Xmen) and I beat Dr. Doom in his castle. I like Marvel Heroes a lot - it's not difficult, there is little to no death penalty, it's flashy and you get to do cool things with all of your favorite heroes.

It costs a lot to buy new heroes in real money or time by collecting eternity splinters. I was able to do my 2nd run by creating a new account with my main email and picking Colossus instead of Hawkeye.

I recommend this game to anyone who likes diablo and marvels comic movies - good game - kind of fair free to play system with the collecting currency over time. It's an amazing game to play while doing other things :)

  • May 17, 2015 - Another game that has been on my list for a long time. The Hitman games have been a part of my gaming life since I was young. Counterstrike, Day of Defeat, and Hitman were all games that I started playing on PC when I was first 11 years old and upgraded from my N64.

I have beaten every single one of them that has come out since then - I don't play it traditionally though - I try my best to stealth it and make the kills look natural - but I have no problem throwing down the gauntlet and killing 50 bodyguards with an assault rifle to get my target if the level has pissed me off enough.

This game comes with an end of the level recap of weapons, strategies, and disguises you used or missed so you can go back through them. It also came with a mission editor so people can make and share their own contract kill missions and you can do those over and over again to get money and unlock weapons and costumes.

The story itself was passable - you as Agent 47 are sent to kill one of your old contacts from The Agency, while performing the kill, she tells you of why he was sent to kill her, and he seeks to help her out - but really I don't need much of an excuse to go to some interesting locals and kill people in amazing ways.

This game is great, the systems are the best they have ever been and I can't wait for the next one. Really this is the Hitman game to buy with its replay ability if you haven't already.

  • June 06, 2015 - I saw this game on my shelf, remembered liking it, and during my thinking process - realized I never beat the damn thing. So this afternoon I put it in my 360 and started where I left off.

This game is a 3D plateformer with collectables - voice acted scenes and is actually quite funny. So I play it - and beat it in 40 minutes - it was cool - you fight god at the end in a Dance Dance Revolution style game at the end after you invade heaven! I wish they had made a sequel with the same quality of writing as this one.

  • June 29, 2015 - This game was kind of a surprise for me. I haven't played an on rails shooter since I was 12 in an arcade - so I was a bit hesitant to play this one on the PC. But with the low bar to entry ($13) I gave it a shot - and it was good. Not great, or awesome, but it was a good time. There were sexy ladies, cool guns, and the game had style.

If it's ever on sale or you're mr money bags give it a go.

  • September 19, 2015 - This has been a long time coming. I bought this game awhile back because I had heard such good things, and despite the 100s of western based movies video games in this style are not done very often.

The long short of it is this. You are a bounty hunter, drunk in a bar retelling his best revenge stories. And you get to play out his stories as he tells them. This effect is done really well and makes for a really good experience with the story telling.

I thought the game was great - shooting felt great and there were enough different level designs to keep it fresh. It's on the shorter side but in a day and age where game just pad and pad and pad their shit over and over for no reason but to put "our game has 50 hours of game play" on the box, I have to say I found it to be refreshing. If I had 1 grip with the game - the duels. They are 1 hit kills, so if you're not fast enough you will always die instantly and have to reload and it takes away from the game.

  • September 30, 2015 - So first off god bless the people who optimized this game for PC, well done to you. Ran smooth on my quite old pc and I thought it looked damn good while doing it.

I will start by saying I really enjoyed the story missions on Mad Max and thought they were cool, action packed, and exactly what I wanted. What I didn't like is how there were literally hundreds on little tiny dots on the map each a little side thing you could do, and all of it got old fast. And in order to make the fighting and combat easier you need to do a lot of this side stuff, not all but enough to piss me off just a bit.

You upgrade max, you upgrade the car, and much like that other open world game released by WB this game makes you feel like a bad ass by the end and I enjoyed that as well. Oh and one last thing, no spoilers but near then end max does something really stupid and if you were allowed to make a choice I would have chose otherwise but in this game you're along for the ride so to speak and max does what he wants to so meh, shit happens.

Fun game. Would recommend buying it on sale due to it's repetitive nature. But definitely worth checking out for sure.

  • October 10, 2015 - I have so many god damn games and with Fallout 4 on the horizon I have been trying my best to just play what I got and get the tiny games off of my HD.

Sniper Elite 2 has always been on my radar, I had played the demo (back when that was a thing) and enjoyed the first level. So I started this one in the hopes I could beat it quick.

The game was fun, lots of levels, very easy difficulty, and fun slow mo head shots a plenty. I can tell that this game on the hardest difficulty is supposed to be a stealth game, sneaking around, timing your shots etc. And that may explain why on the super easy difficulty I beat the game in under 3 hours. My strategy was always sneak until I get caught, then headshot everyone! And I actually appreciate that they made a difficulty that did not include hours and hours of getting caught and mission failed screens, they know some people just want to get through a game and enjoy it, no padding.

It was short, but I did enjoy my time with this game.

  • October 12, 2015 - I guess I have been feeling homesick for WWII shooters lately, because right after beating Sniper Elite, I jumped into this game to kill more Nazi war machines haha

Ok so this game has been in my collection for awhile as well. My computer is getting old though, so there was some unavoidable screen tearing and freezing that preventing me from fully enjoying it. However despite all of those flaws I actually just bit the bullet and decided to get through this great game, despite the technical flaws due to my old comp.

So what can I say about this game? There are lots of guns, it has a dirty dozen vibe to it, being sometimes jokey about fighting the Axis (But sometimes not which adds a nice balance). There's a love interest, BJ (the main character) is a funny guy, actually all the characters are good from what I saw, though under utilized in my opinion. The game looks really good and doesn't take it self to seriously.

It's weird but I actually kind of understand why they avoided multiplayer with this game. This is just a good old fashioned FPS with modern elements like cut scenes and character acting to bring the whole experience up a notch but at it's core, it does shooting Nazis really well.

If you're a fan of single player FPSs, then really this game does that quite well.

  • October 21, 2015 - So, I beat this game too. Same good points as the last game, with added flame skull zombie Nazis in it haha. Thought not really explained, you go to castle wolfenstien, kill some Nazis and run through some cool looking environments.

They added a few new things, like the classic double barreled shotgun which does great work against the new zombies. The ending was a bit confusing - there was this kind of necromancer big monster which caused all of the zombie issues but he had nothing to do with fire? Odd, but a cool short game non the less.

If this game is on sale in the future I highly recommend it.

  • December 10th, 2015 - Ok so I will admit. I did not beat this game. I know I know shame on me and such but I just can't do it anymore. I have decided that I hate traditional MMOs. I do. GW2 is all about doing the same tasks over and over until a little heart fills up and then going to a new area.

My necromancer is currently level 43 and a few months ago the base game went free to play so I thought I would beat it but I can't. I love the visuals and the world but MMO game play is so god damn boring. And with the total game being 24GB I am going to uninstall it.

Overall I can tell the game is good, but now a days I wan't a less grindy experience.

  • December 12, 2015 - Ok so I beat the main story campaign in the game - SPOILERS AHEAD***** I sided with the railroad and killed the brotherhood of steel and the institute because I like synths, they're cool dudes.

So that being said, after the main story, and some really funny and good quest lines I seem to have run into a situation where I keep getting the go here and clear this quests. And I have to admit - I don't like them. Like I've done so many of them now that I actually feel like uninstalling the game. Like the way the other games worked (3 and New Vegas) were every quest you got was unique and interesting, with dialogue and choices. And then on the map there were places you could go check out yourself that had no quests attached to it. In the new game it encourages you to revisit sometimes the same areas over and over again for these clear quests and it's really ruining the experience for me in a way.

In either case I feel like I got my money's worth already but more than anything I want to go back and play fallout 3 over this new one.

  • December 21, 2015 - So you play as a gordan freeman looking dude who has just shown up on this undiscovered planet to mine the orange goo that everyone has been killing eachother over for the past 2 games.

The game does really well to make you feel like you are just a regular joe, doing a job, and killing bit ice bugs while doing it. The game then makes some interesting story choices, goes the corp bad, natives good route and the story is pretty much cleche at the point.

The gameplay is really quite fun - with a mix of 3rd person shooting and mech piloting and I actually quite enjoyed it. This was one of those games that I did want to beat and uninstall though so I tried to see if the multiplayer was even remotely alive still and it was a no go.

  • December 22, 2015 - So, after buying this years and years ago I saw it in my steam list the other day and thought, fuck it, lets rock this bitch and get it done.

So on Dec 22 around 3 in the afternoon I fired this up and began playing it. And around 4PM I almost rage quit and deleted the game. There were a couple of reasons for this - the shooting mechanics have you being incredibly inaccurate all the time, there are hacking minigames that are mandatory and with PC controls are completely broken, and the game starts off as bout as boiler plate as you can make a game (you're in the middle east, running around brown buildings, searching for a Saudi Arabian man with missiles).

So needless to say, not a great start. However, I took a deep breath despite this issues and decided to push through. I ended up making a hybrid character - that focused on assault rifles, toughness (aka an over shield that recharges to prevent damage), and hand to hand combat.

And soon after doing that I actually began to enjoy the game for the content that should be enjoyed in a game this old - its dialogue system and story telling. Now to those who have never played AP - it has a system much like Mass Effect and many other modern day games - it's a radial wheel with choices such as suave, professional, angry - and once you choose one you're character will respond accordingly. This game goes one step further though and makes it a timed choice. So rather than blankly staring at the NPC for 5 minutes while you make a choice on whether you want to sleep with them or get info from them, there is a timer that ticks down during the conversation and at 0 seconds your choice is then stated by your character. Now what this does is actually makes the talking between characters feel real, and by the end of the game I actually loved the system so much because it provided a cinematic and realistic experience when two characters where talking.

This system alone turned my opinion of this game around. Like I said I was ready to delete it all after the first hour. But soon after that you have a long dialogue with one of the characters and make your first major decision in the games story and it hooked me.

The gunplay and punching dudes with my soldier character was not the draw to this game. The gameplay is not good in the regard and has aged very poorly in my opinion, and really is a means to an end - The Story. The story and the talking between characters actually made this game a diamond in the rough in my opinion, that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys raising their standards.
