Games I'll Simply Never Tire Of

The ol' pile o' games I can come back to at any time whenever I need something to play and nothing else on the shelf seems worthwhile.

List items

 • Quite simply the greatest game ever made.

100% Items, 0:59. I know this game better than I know myself.

 • It's better than the original NES game in every possible aspect (graphics, sound, and level design), yet most will deny that fact, and many don't even know of its existence.

It can be cheesed pretty easily with the Flame Gun, but is still a great way to burn 20 minutes or so.

 • I've found myself playing this game on and off since the original Dreamcast release for the past ten years. I knew I was doomed to this game's evil clutches when I imported Version 2 for the Dreamcast and called off work for three days just to play it.

PSO is also responsible for about 80% of the online friends I've had over the years.

 • I've lost count of the number of times I've been through this game start to finish, and even more time spent just New Game+'ing for endings. My old SNES cart still works after all these years, and my original save file is still intact.

I've still got a factory sealed SNES copy of the game sitting in storage. Duplicate Christmas presents are awesome!

 • I find myself strangely addicted to this game at times. Any time I play it, I can simply boot it up for one or two quick games, other times I'll spend days gunning for some imaginary high score.

 • When this game released on PC I played it non-stop for an entire month, completing it on every difficulty and completing every challenge room. Despite having been through it multiple times, I still find myself booting it up every few months for a quick run-through on Normal.

I've gifted this game to just about every single person I know.

 • I spent way too many quarters and way too much time playing and beating the mortal poops out of everyone at my local arcade to not love this game. Still a blast among friends.

 • Sure, why not another Contra? It's only my second (or first, depending on when you ask me) favorite series of all time, and this one completely trounces the ever loving poopy out of Contra III (again, despite what some others may lead you to believe.)

Considered by many to be way too hard, all it takes is some patience to learn all the nasty tricks this game has up its sleeve, and then cruising through it in a good 30'ish minutes for any of the endings becomes second-nature.

 • I get a lot of funny looks when I mention this game. Most people don't know about it, and the people that do really can't figure out why I love it so much. I think I may have a life dream to own a Bosconian cabinet. Like City Connection, only this one tends to consume more of my time in any one sitting.

Finally obtaining a portable version of it on one of the PSP's Namco collections was a rather joyous day.

 • I've never been sure why the original Tecmo Bowl gets the nod over this one (then again, I'm not sure why people take Contra over Super C or Mega Man 2 over Mega Man 3), but whatever!

About once a year or so, I drag this old cart out and run a full season with a random team, and as broken and easy as it is to win, I still love the presentation, and the music is fantastic. Love that opening theme.

 • Always a blast to play through this one at least once or twice a year with a friend either on the cart or online in some fashion.
