Games of 2015

2015 was a fantastic year for video games and I still haven't played most of the awesome games that were released this year. (i.e. Witcher 3)

List items

  • MGS V continues to be a fascinating game with a fascinating amount of mess surrounding it. The microtransaction nonsense Konami is adding post-launch is horrid. The fact that this game is actually unfinished is insulting. I want to hate and criticize this game so bad, but when I am out in the field taking down soliders, fultoning animals, and doing whatever else I want to do. It's so damn perfect and fun. MGS V is the game I will continue to love! One day, someone will mod the nonsensical shit out of the game, right?

  • I have never played or even know anything about Dragon Quest, but I decided to pick up Heroes because it was a Musou game and I cannot stop playing it. The art looks gorgeous, the music is fantastic, the game is a ton of fun to play, and the english voice acting is superb. The varieties in everyone's accents really propel my enjoyment of the story unfolding. The best part about Dragon Quest Heroes is that I have begun my adventures into playing mainline Dragon Quest games starting with DQ V.

  • Fallout 3 was great. Fallout New Vegas was better. Fallout 4 was a big step down from New Vegas, but I am still enjoying my time with it in all honesty.

Weird, one of my biggest disappointments of 2015 still manages to make it to the #3 spot.

  • This counts as a 2015 release, right? I love Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, and Dark Souls 2. Sure, Dark Souls 2 was more of Dark Souls, but I am okay with that. After spending hundreds of hours in Dark Souls 2. It was awesome to see Scholar of the First Sin mix up the world of Dark Souls 2 in ways that both irritated me and excited me. Why is this X monster here?! What is the statue doing here?! It gave me the feeling of coming back to my hometown after years of being away. It's awesome.

(I have played Bloodborne, but I haven't been enjoying my time in Bloodborne at all. Not sure if it is the weapon/armor variety, the difficulty, or the fact that summoning is a pain? I just haven't been enjoying Bloodborne.)

  • I have never enjoyed a Dragonball game until XenoVerse. XenoVerse allows me to be the Dragon Ball character I've always wanted to be while hanging out with my favorite characters from DragonBall. Thanks Bandai Namco for making this 24 year old's dreams come true.

  • Life is Strange is another game I didn't play, but I watched Dooger(PressHeartToContinue) & Giant Bomb play it and I was absolutely into it. Life is Strange creates very shallow characters and slowly fleshes those characters out in ways I didn't think it was going to do. Who thought I was ever going to care about David Madsen or Victoria, but I did. Also Arcadia Bay felt like a real place in a real time. Life Is Strange gives me unbridled excitement to see what the team at DontNod do next!!

  • I did not play Until Dawn, but watching Gametrailers & Giant Bomb & Scary Game Squad play through it. I could not be more impressed and in love with this game. I don't like anything to do with horror, but the interesting thing about Until Dawn is that the game isn't trying to scare you. It's just trying to be a fun entertaining game while making fun of teen horror.

  • Cibele is short autobiographical story about a woman developing a romantic relationship with a dude over an online game. It's sweet and worth the two hour experience. I did feel very uncomfortable at moments because the game has elements of voyeurism that I wasn't into at all.

  • I am nowhere close to beating Undertale...at least I think, but I have been enjoying my time enough to place it in my top 10. Undertale has already subverted my expectations, made me laugh out loud numerous times, and had me date a skeleton. No wonder this game has such an energetic fanbase!

(If I actually finished the game, I wouldn't be surprised to see this in the #2 or #3 slot)

  • So I've been playing some THUG PRO. After seeing the awful mess that was THPS 5, I figured I try out THUG PRO and I am so happy. THUG PRO is a mod for THUG 2 that basically brings back everything you love about Tony Hawk games. It's a fun experience. Whenever I needed to relax I would just play some THUG PRO and skate around my favorite levels. I know it isn't a 2015 game, but I wanted to mention it.
