Speaking of overpriced micro-transactions, Halo 5 just recently got a ton of req pack bundles, going all the way up to $99.99.

More importantly, is the $99.99 pack labelled "best value"?

To me it seems more like the worst of both worlds. Like "you now get to pay 40$ for what is obviously a game designed around F2P".

Yeah this is how I feel, I feel like it's a product that will obviously go into the F2P model but of course they would say they have no plans of doing that up front to recoup some money back for having worked on titan. They also said they have no plans of adding new heroes but I also don't buy that. How long it'll be until they go F2P though... it's gonna be a long wait :(

not gonna drop full price on a soon-to-be-f2p shooter, not after Titanfall and Evolve taught me that a multiplayer only title at full price = dead in 6 months

it'll either be dead or f2p, so why regret paying in the first place?

I mean, I guess we live in a super cynical age of video gaming, but why are we assuming this? I don't think Blizzard is pulling the wool over people's eyes to recoup money from Titan...its not like Activision-Blizzard is a small company that couldn't absorb that. Besides "worked on it for 10 years" could mean anything, it doesn't necessarily mean 10 years of constant development.

@president_barackbar: yeah there hasn't been a good one of those in a long time. As far as battlefront is concerned though, hasn't it always been this? Just like "hey want to live out Star Wars power fantasies? Here you go" albeit the previous ones had more fantasy shit to offer

I mean, they had that to a degree, but it was more stuff like "Hey you can play as a Dark Trooper from Dark Forces on Hoth even though by the time that battle happened the DT project had been killed by Kyle Katarn." It was little things that were a little more forgivable. Hell, even Battlefront 2 had heroes but it had an expanded list to try to cater to a wider fan audience (how EA made a Star Wars game with no Chewbacca in it blows my mind). Battlefront 1 and 2 were Star Wars power fantasies, but in a way that felt more authentic and like it had a place in the continuity of the series.

@president_barackbar: I hear ya. I used to be a super nerd too (before I got annoyed with where the mythology was going) I feel like their reasoning for only sticking to original trilogy stuff is to coincide with the movie. I have to believe that some of the dlc will contain prequel planets and such. Like...they can't not have obi wan in here right? Right???

As far as I'm concerned the Prequel stuff should never appear again in anything, don't misunderstand me there. I more just mean the fact that the game seems to be like a "going from memory" version of the OT and almost reminds me of like a kid's version of what Star Wars is like (Man wouldn't Hoth be SO COOL if there were like X-Wings and TIE Fighters zooming around going pew pew while Luke and Vader fought it out!?) rather than trying to ground it in that universe.

This is a game for star wars fans. Mindless entertainment Star Wars fantasy fulfillment. Nothing more. Nothing less.....and I love it....

See, coming at it from another angle, as a Star Wars super fan (yes I even like the EU people cherry pick the worst stuff out of to prove its shit) I feel like this is a game that was made for fans of the Original Trilogy movies and nothing else. Its the kind of glossy, mass market "hey remember this from those movies!?" kind of stuff that I don't much care for. Enjoy it if you like, but I vastly prefer games like the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series and KOTOR that cared about developing new stories and expanding on the setting rather than just holding up setpieces from the films and going "hey, remember Hoth? That was cool huh?"

This seems ok but I just could not be more tired of the "roguelike elements indie game" trend that won't seem to die.

This game just feels...inauthentic in so many ways. As a big Star Wars fan, it makes me scratch my head when I see a Battle of Hoth with Y-Wing bombers and X-Wings and TIE Fighters dogfighting over the battlefield. They didn't even get some of the little details right, like having an Episode VI Luke on a Hoth map and letting you use Vader on Hoth. I get that its a game, but as a game that is ostensibly made for fans, this game is littered with things that make me wonder whether the people who made the game have seen any of the movies. Add to that the fact that the game seems just like Battlefield but with a Star Wars coat of paint, and I could not be less interested in this title.

Sounds like you never played any of the previous Battlefronts, either -- otherwise seeing Darth Vader run like a hyperactive dolphin-jumping maniac through the streets of Mos Eisley while slicing up Jawas and capturing the "Cantina Command-Point" would make your head explode. ;)

I played both, but I think the difference there was that the hero thing was all I could really point to as being inauthentic, and that was just kinda fun the way they implemented it. There is kind of a baseline of accuracy I expect for a Star Wars title that you would think would extend to the smaller details that aren't actually that hard to get right.
