I don't have any ties to the franchise so I don't really care where it goes anymore, I thought Splinter Cell did stealth better and that is still true after Ground Zeroes.
I like the easter eggs and some of the character designs but the writing (specifically the conversions) is bad and the plot in 2 and 4 is the bad kind of insane. I hope 5 is better because the prequel still has generally been more grounded, MGS3 is probably my least favourite of the entire bunch gameplay wise due to all the menu hopping.
Capcom fighters don't have much solo content but they're still played today widely, unlike MK9. That's more important to me personally, though yes having a better story mode than just arcade is preferred. (but really I couldn't care less about SF or MK 'lore')
People holding up until MGS4 is strange. The only real changes are the RE4 aiming camera angle, crouch walking, and octocamo. Big stuff yes, but plenty of things about MGS4 are just an HD MGS3.
and lots of crazy story.
backed up by filler and boredom, I hope Kojima does away with the "you just met this character, now he's going to talk at you for 15 minutes" schtick with MGS5.
