I'm surprised to hear Dan saying that he played this game just shooting and killing, I never thought any of the games had particularly good shooting or combat even back when they were new. If you boil down MGS to just shooting and going around like a maniac it doesn't seem very fun. I expected people that are huge fans of the series to mostly play stealth, Splinter Cell: Ground Zeroes is much better for playing as a shooter although even then I feel like ignoring stealth is stripping away too many gameplay mechanics.
His opinions on Splinter Cell are oddly malicious as well, but I guess he just doesn't like stuff that tries to be grounded in reality. That's all I can think of, as Blacklist is the best stealth game I've ever played (and Ground Zeroes is seriously just Splinter Cell).
I'm gonna try and get into this one. I thought MK9 had really poor animations and looked cheap, so I never really grew to like it. This looks much better and I managed to get a pre-order for just $35 on Steam.
Street Fighter IV will still be my go-to fighting game but this'll be a fun distraction, I'm sure I'll pick it up very fast as I'm proficient in SFIV and KOF's combo systems which I know are both more advanced than MK9.
Hopefully the online works as I heard bad things about MK9 at least around launch, a lot of it might have been relating to the DLC characters locking people out as opposed to netcode issues.
I remember when he was praising the PS3 with hyperbolic statements in the past and found it funny he then moved to the company who make the console he wanted slamming.
