This series kicks ass. It's fun to watch as someone who's worked on an automated lunar lander for a Google Space-X team.
I don't want to give too much advice because seeing team B.E.A.S.T figure it out is half the fun. That said, it would be tragic for them to successfully get a Kerbal to the Mun, only to have their hero die horrifically because of a small oversight.
As @austin_walker and a few others have pointed out, the command pod needs a heat shield. Without careful aerobraking, a return to Kerbin from the Mun could easily lead to an orbital velocity exceeding 3.2 km/s, which will destroy the command pod, and poor Valentina along with it.
