Sony just needs a bit of time...

Recentally during the big E3 microsoft press conference, Hironobu Sakaguchi arrived on stage to talk a bit (as best he could) about upcoming games for the xbox360 from square enix. Nothing to special other then a few release dates and some more footage of the games but then he returned to the stage to annouce that Final Fantasy XIII, which had originally been a PS3 exculsive, would now be coming to the Xbox360 as well. This was a great victory for Xbox360 owners because now the ace in the hole that sony was carrying (other then Metal Gear) was gone and of course all the Xbox360 fanboys went to town with this news. Now people who were considering buying a PS3 now had no real reason to buy it and for awhile there i though all was lost for a console that i payed so much money for. After the shocking news everyone was expecting sony to pull some huge out of their hats for their conference but sadly in most people's eyes it was a failure. They talked alot about PS2 and how even to this day its still going strong which nice but really no one but a few PS2 owners really cared about. Also they seemed to just show games that we all already knew about, like Little Big Planet, and the wieldy popular Resitance 2. All in all their conference didnt seem like much and really was not anything that would send videogamers from the Xbox360 to the PS3.

Although the conference may not have seemed like alot when you really begin to disect what sony has coming you begin to see that maybe pulling out that huge wad of cash towards a simple console really is not that bad of an idea. So lets start with what sony has planned for the rest of this year. Little Big Planet, a game that has been shown at many E3's and now were all really tired of seeing a just want it in our systems now. Little Big Planet is a PS3 exculsive and in my eyes is a huge reason to buy a PS3. If the conference showed us anything its that Little Big PLanets possiblities are endless. You can make anything you wish and show it off to the community with ease. Although many Xbox260 owners may look at this game and laugh at how childish this game may seem, for some reason there is just something appealing to me. Who knows what it is but its there and i feel that when this game is released (we have been waiting long enough) and people begin to see what levels can be created it may just spark some intrest back into this dying console.

It has just been in the past few years that video games have really gotten into the advantages of having a great multiplayer portion to their games. In the past I and most of the people I knew would spend their cash on games to recieve a great singleplayer experience. However it would seem in this day n'age we all demand mutliplayer with our games. Great games like bioshock, even though it is a breath taking game, is critizied for the fact that it lacks online multiplayer and thus a near perfect game goes from a score of A+++ to a grade of B+ or something around those lines. People won't pick up the game because " hey WTFmate no multiplayer then what do you do in the game." Multiplayer has become something that can make or break any game out there. In a way singleplayer seems to have become a add on for games now a days. During this years Sony Press Conference two great games were talked about which both from the sounds of it will include some pretty nice looking multiplayer with them. Resistance was the first game I myself bought when I recieved my PS3 but the singleplayer wasn't my cup of tea. The Multiplayer however i found myself enjoying for many weeks and it was very hard to put down. Well when the CEO of insomniac games annouced that Resistance Two would contain 60 person online multiplayer and 8 player Co-Op with its own campaign to go along with it I was impressed. If they can take the great fun that the first game's multiplayer had and bring it to the sequel well then im sold and im sure it will sell a few people searching for a game with massive online battles, the likes we have not seen since the Battlefield games on our PC ( oh how i miss Battlefield 2) Finally the last annoucment was a game known as M.A.G (Massive Action Game) and yes when you hear the name it either makes you laugh out loud or it makes you wonder how bad this game could possibly be, because they really don't know how to hire someone who knows how to come up with a good name. In a way its like naming a RTS game "RTS" or naming a game about Dogs "Dogs". Well at first I laughed at the name but then i heard the words "256" and my mouth, like many people in the audience, dropped to the floor. 256 people will be able to engage in a battle together online, on the PS3. Now im sure people are saying to themsleves " well that will be chaotic" but they plan on doing it in squads of 8 each having objectives to deal with. This game is just beginning to come together so it will be interesting if this all comes together. Also after hearing about the new online system that a little game called Killzone 2 is going to introduce it would seem that the PS3 has a good online multiplayer exculsives heading to their doorstep.

PSN is something that currently seems like it is just beginning to spread its wing, and you would be correct. The night after the SOny Press COnference on the PSN the ability to instantly download movies to your PS3 and then to your PSP became availble. Now i am a Canadian and to any other Canadians out there waiting for the movies feature to become available, well keep waiting because it won't be hitting our shelves for a long time if at all. Still a friend of mine in the States tells me that the selection the PSN network currently has is pretty impressive. A ton of new movies that have recently been brought out to DVD are also available to download which is nice but the thing that caught my eye the most is the fact that animated shows that have been translated into English by funimation are also downloadable. I can not get enough anime so this news was a big eye opener for me. Another new feature that the PSN now had taken in is a trophie system. Now currently only a few games have been brought out that include trophies but sony assures us that more will become avaible soon. Even though it seems like it was taken from the Xbox360 but who cares it still is a nice touch. Finally in the future hopefully soon we will all have a little PSN addon known as HOME. In which you create a personal character and then recieve a home and design it the way you like. It will also allow you to access your games, looks at your friends list and more. To me it looks like Mii's on steroids ( kids don't do steroids) which to me is a big plus in my books. Hopefully in the future when this is all available people will begin to see that XBox360 isn't the only console with a great online feature.

So really who knows who is going to win this battle for the ultimate console. Many people think nintendo has already claimed this honor but you should all keep your little eyes on what sonys got coming, because when you really look at it all they still have a bit of fight left in them. And in a way thats why i bought a PS3 in the first place, not because of final fantasy XIII or metal gear (although they were a small part of the reason) and not for its blue ray. I think i bought a PS3 because if there is one thing sony does right its never giving up even in the darkest of hours.
