And I wondered just how distorted the map in the game really was. So, I decided to try and figure it out.

First, I stitched together a map in the game:

Then, I took a map of the US and started distorting it to fit the map. I put the areas I knew where they were to the same place on the Crew map. There's some really serious distortion in the mountain states. Like, all of the states between Idaho and Wisconsin are basically gone. Also, Death Valley is nowhere near it's real location which really messed things up.

The East coast seems much less distorted, but I don't know how well I lined up everything. There weren't as many obvious landmarks to work with. Anyway, here's the messed up map with location tags from the game map overlayed.

Figured I'd share this here.

Loving it so far. It helps that it's actually a Final Fantasy game unlike the '13' games were.

Didn't even know it was coming, but then I saw it and was like... Cool, I don't have to get it on my Vita.

This is quite possibly the best bad idea that any company has ever had.

No, it won't actually work. Size and distance are extremely limiting factors, for one, but they've solved that by limiting the radius from an Amazon warehouse and limiting the weight to five pounds. What about all of the other factors that could come into play? There are almost too many to list, but...

  • Birds
  • Rain
  • Wind
  • Power lines
  • Faulty GPS
  • Faulty helicopter-thingy
  • People shooting them out of the sky
  • People watching where they land and looting them in a matter of seconds

...and more! I just think that the world is far too unpredictable for this to work right as often as it needs to, that's all. Though, frankly, if I were near enough an Amazon warehouse I would totally get a candy bar, some shampoo, and razors delivered just so I can say that I did.

Planes and helicopters seem to to do fine without being shot out of the sky or being destroyed by birds. Also, people seem to forget that drones already exist and are already flying around the US. This isn't that new. It's just being used commercially that's new. Seriously, a lot of people in the thread are really fucking reactionary/alarmist about some awesome stuff.

When Persona 5 is released on PS3 in the US. That's around the time 'next gen' wasn't next gen anymore for PS3 and 360 when Persona 4 came out. It's when lots of people looked at the PS2 finally and went "that's old."

So, how long do you think it'll be until this is free to play?

I'll give it two years at most.

Edit: I'm also completely serious. I'm not being sarcastic, or facetious, or whatever.

Yea, I have no messages, but the website says I have 29 unread messages. I've checked all over and I have none at all. My inbox is completely empty, as well, as I had just emptied it out shortly after the new site design. Not sure if there's anything that you guys could do to fix it, though.

So did this game get cancelled? It seems their website (www.blackdeathgame.com) is now parked. That's too bad; it looked interesting.

That's something I've always hated about racing games. Especially games where different cars are supposed to be faster/slower than each other. What's the point if the AI can just bounce along behind you, and pass you whenever?

because its no fun racing on an empty track which is what happens if there is no rubber banding. you get too far ahead and then you are practically playing alone.

happens in mulitplayer too for the same reason. you need the thrill of needing to stay on edge.

be cool to turn it off though for some races or at least be a mode.

Well, I guess that's you're opinion, but if someone wants a challenge that's what increasing the AI difficulty/turning off car help (Traction control, ABS, etc.) are for. I would prefer that if my car is vastly superior to the other racers to pull far ahead. That's fun to me. The game completely undermining my accomplishments of affording better cars/upgrades is not fun.

I have the same feelings about RPGs that scale the enemy levels. What's the point of allowing me to level up if everything else levels up around me? There isn't one, because it just makes leveling up completely pointless. In some games it actually makes leveling up detrimental. The same is for rubberbanding - getting a faster car just makes the races harder because moving at a higher rate of speed makes handling more difficult, something that the AI has no problem with.

At the very least I should have the option to turn it off, but I don't think it should exist at all. Maybe if it were a BMX racing game or a running racing game it'd make sense, but not in cars or motorcycles.
