@howardian: Definitely, there have been persistent balance issues with the console versions (despite having console specific balance patches every so often). That said, I genuinely do think Blizzard are working with Sony/Microsoft to roll out patches and balance the game to try and avoid low aim requirement heroes dominating

@turambar: I could be mistaken, but I'd put money on the accuracy of a memory I have of killing Miranda in PW, turning the WT to PB and fighting her phantom form in the same game, just for one example

Yeah if you want to do 100% of the items and events you need a perfect guide to follow or multiple playthroughs. I honestly don't even know if it's possible to do all of it in one go, though I'd assume it is?

Most pure white tendency events allows you to do a quest for a character while pure black tendency events results you killing them, and both can be done if you achieve pure white first. However, I believe World 1 (and maybe world 4?) is an exception where both ends of the tendency meter involves you killing the same NPC, meaning you can only do one of them.

actually the PWWT and PBWT characters with the same name are independent of each other - killing one does not prevent the other showing up once you alter the world tendency

It's worth remembering there are 8 states of world ranging from pure black, through to neutral and pure white.

this is a useful resource from the demon's souls wikidot wiki. You can influence world tendency whilst playing online, but be aware if you login to the server again it will automatically restore your world tendency to the server average (I don't know what this is today, back in the day it was generally light grey).

Pure White world tendency events are difficult to get without planning, as any death in body form will reduce world tendency, offsetting the bonuses from killing bosses, but pure black can be achieved by simply dying, restoring yourself to body form in that world and dying again over and over until pure black is achieved.

These extreme world states are tied to events throughout - new NPCs appear, small areas unlock and new items are available. If I were you I'd take some time to look at the pure white tendency events and pure black tendency events, and decide which, if any, you'd like to attempt. It's likely you'll need to start a new playthrough.

Additionally to world tendency, there is character tendency, which follows the same scale and is indicated as the human icon in the centre of the world tendency indicator on the main menu. Pure white increases damage and gives you access to some items, whereas pure black unlocks multiple assassination quests.

As you can see, this is a complicated subject and requires some planning if you want to try and access all the content. My advice is go for white worlds first and complete all 3 stages (because worlds start slightly closer to white than black on the server, usually), and then manually turn it to black by dying in body form 7 times. Of course as previously mentioned, all of this works best offline to avoid risk of the server resetting the world tendencies, so if you'd rather join in with online events until then and tackle this at a later date! (Also, there is a useful method of item duplication should you want to complete everything in a playthrough, otherwise restoring yourself to life without a supply of stones of stones of ephemeral eyes is painful and tedious to say the least, but I won't spoil that if you would rather not).

The added content is great fun. You get 2 new abilities, 2 new areas (basically one larger area), you can't access the whole lot until you've done the first section of the main game, but it's all pretty seamless. You're never told to go there but it's not hard to find, and it's a really fun area. It adds a new mechanic which can be used in other areas, and some of the secrets have been reworked to allow you to use them. In addition you can now reenter all areas in the game before the point of no return, so you can finally get any collectibles you missed.

It also adds some difficulty mode changes, an easy mode which makes some jumps easier and you take a lot less damage if you find the game a bit harsh, a hard mode I found very uninspired, just more damage from everything which is pretty frustrating and dull, and of course the one life mode. I don't see who would like that personally, but maybe that's because I'm just not good enough.

All in all I'd recommend it to anyone who played the game a while ago and liked it, or someone who's wondering which version they should purchase. It is worth the extra money, imo.

I mean, who can blame them? Really? They don't want to end up like blockbuster, but they're only delaying the inevitable unless they embrace the changing industry in some way (don't ask me how though?!)

Well, I think this is a good thing. Sure, it won't be that hard for people to cheat the system but at least the awareness that adderall abuse (or other drugs, whatever) is being enforced as "this is not a smart thing to do" so that maybe some people will think twice when their buddies tell them it's a good idea.

There are far more dangerous substances abused, but that doesn't mean this should just be viewed as ok. They've done the best they can with the situation imo.

@austin_walker: are you saying Scott Steiner is a witcher?

transistor's story makes you work for it. You have to mix up your functions, try the limiters and read up on your files. It's just encouraging you to try lots of different setups in yet another way. This works for some people, others will hate it unfortunately. Personally, this type of storytelling really draws me into a world. But it's not for everyone and you can't force yourself to like it.

Another thing I've noticed is the more powerful your setup, the more likely overloading just once is going to screw your over for a long, long time. You can have a mid-damage setup and afford to loose pretty much any of your skills, but the higher damage setups are going to struggle if you muck up and loose a function.

I love how the bonus rooms in the sandbox aren't just "side stuff", I felt that they made me a better player for playing them, and I got exp rewards. The limiters work in a similar way (except the no uninstall limiter, fuck that!) - risk and reward are nicely balanced in this game.
