After spending 3 hours deciphering how this mechanic works, I figured I would write up a quick guide on how to catch the weather sos exclusive Pokémon.

You'll want adrenaline orbs which are purchasable from the vendor in pokecenters, a Pokémon with Rain Dance, Sandstorm, or Hail (depending on what kind of Pokémon you want), and a Pokémon that can stall with buff/debuff moves and can easily oneshot whatever the wild Pokémon calls to help.

The Pokémon which are exclusive to weather SOS are: Castform (Rain, Hail), Goomy (Rain), Vanillite (Hail), Poliwrath/Politoed (Rain), and Gabite (Sandstorm).

First, you'll need to weaken the Pokémon to 50% or less HP. Make sure not to inflict a status like sleep or paralysis, as this stops the Pokémon from calling for help. If you're catching a hail/sandstorm Pokémon, pick an opponent that won't be killed by the weather you're using.

Next, start the weather you need. Give your Pokémon the rock item which will extend the relevant weather, available in the room next to the Malie City flea market. Finally, use an Adrenaline Orb. This will increase the wild pokemon's propensity to call for help.

Now, get comfortable. Switch to your stall/oneshot Pokémon, and wait for the wild mon to call for help. Keep knocking out whatever it calls that's not the desired rare spawn. Refresh the weather as soon as it ends, as the special Pokémon only come during their desired weather.

The chance to encounter one of the weather exclusive Pokémon seems extremely low, but don't get discouraged, this DOES work. I got Castform from a Pelipper battle in the patch of grass outside Tapu Village, and Vanillish during a Sandshrew battle in the grass right before the Pokémon League on Mount Lanakila. Make sure to look up the area your desired Pokémon is available before starting a battle.

Good luck, and happy hunting!!!

Because of some creative trading on the GTS I currently have all starters and nearly every version exclusive Pokemon excluding legendaries and UBs.

If you want a Litten, Rowlett, Popplio, Alolan Sandshrew, Alolan Vulpix, Vullaby, Rufflet, Petilil, Cottonee, Oranguru, Turtonator, Archen, Shieldon, Cranidos, Passimian, Drampa, or Tirtouga let me know. Just PM me a list of what you want and I'll get to you asap.

These won't have any particular nature, abilities, or moves though. I'm just providing exclusives for people who need their Pokedex filled. You can use them to breed your own though!

Edit: the creative trading was that people really want Turtonator. Managed to trade a Petilil for one, and have been mass breeding Turtonators to throw on the GTS since the third island started. I even found people willing to trade Sun exclusives like Tirtouga for Turtonator, even though he's a Sun exclusive Pokemon. I guess people don't want to catch their own.

@theblue: Salandit is rare enough in the wild that I'm thinking it'll probably be faster to just try to breed them like crazy. I have a male I can use to try to get some females hatched, may do that later today.

@theblue: be prepared to do some searching. They're 1/9 female, like the starters.

Just an aside, but if you catch a Magby on the volcano and a Ditto at Mount Hokulani you can be quickly breeding by the third island. I even found an Everstone at some point in the game.

@imhungry: I don't think I'd ever Nuzlocke this game. Z-moves are just insane.

@redyoshi: The new pokemon are great! A ton of really cool bugs, I agree. The only thing that bums me out about Vikavolt is that I was really happy to find an adamant Grubbin early on, before I found out that Vikavolt is a special attacker. Charjabug with an Eviolite may be good though.

@capum15: If you want new pokemon, try out Crabrawler instead of Makuhita. He's a super cool fighting type crab that is in the berry piles under trees. You should be able to find one right after where the first trial was.

@redyoshi: Alolan Vulpix looks super cool but I think Crabrawler evolves into a fighting/ice type so I'll probably leave Ninetales out, even though the redesign is amazing.

What's your team like?! Who you runnin'?! Who are you thinking about picking up?!

I always like to use as many of the new pokemon as I can, so right now I'm rocking Decidueye, Lycanroc, Golisopod, Snorlax, Alolan Grimer, and the world-ender Ribombee.

From the jump Cutiefly was absolutely devastating in every battle she participated in. The godlike speed stat and absolute insanity of Pollen Puff (90 power at level 25!!!!) has earned her the nickname Ragnarok.

I love Snorlax but really want a water type to help against Rock and Fire types, so I'm going to go catch a Wimpod and evolve it into Golisopod to round out my group. High defensive stats should help negate the fact that I'll have a third Pokemon on my team weak to rock. I already got through that trial though, so whatever!

I don't really play competitively so I'm mostly talking about what fun Pokemon you're using to progress through the game, but if you want to talk competitive viability in this thread go for it!

The worst part of this story is that Sony banned this guy for a week, and then the ban was extended to a month after he already had no access to the PSN account. So... the only thing that could have caused the extension was a person extending it because they thought a week wasn't long enough or as retaliation for him posting about the ban.
