That is ridicuously good. And not even just in terms of the art; some of them are cool conceptually as well like the Caveman and Vader ones. Very impressive.
Faith from Mirror's Edge free-running up one the Colossi from Shadow of the Colossus. Don't mind which one. In fact here's a list of my favourites if you want some inspiration and handy links to a few of them: http://www.giantbomb.com/profile/raginglion/my-top-9-colossi/46-19797/
You were actually there then. Cool. I watched (while half-concentrating) the future one and Kojima interview. There was some decent stuff that came out of it, particularly the future one imo.
I would also like to see more people thinking from the ground up. Although that probably means building on the shoulders of other thoughts, just thoughts that have grown from somewhere other than just playing games.
Nice piece. I've only funded the Double Fine Adventure so far and quite a large reason for that is because of the documentary which I think will be particularly sweet given the natural comedic talents of Schafer even though the nitty gritty will also be awesome, especially if well produced and edited like it seems it will be. I loved Building the Bastion so I'm in because of something else like that. In terms of the game, I'm not absolutely desperate to play it and anything that falls in that category is now something I just wait for a Steam sale for. I've bought Monkey Island 1 and played and did enjoy it without it rocking my world and I've got 2 waiting for me as well but I don't have a particular history with adventure games and they can often be a frustrating thing to play. I did like Machinarium though - tone, music and animation went a long way with that one though although the gameplay didn't ever annoy either.
Yeah, have to see about future Kickstarters. I doubt I'll be one to resurrect an old genre. I don't have a particular dear one I don't think and if I know a game is going to get funded anyway for something I kind of want I might just opt to wait to get it normally once it's actually made. Really like the model and what it allows though.
I lsitened to some, if not all, The Hotspot highlights packages you put together previously, in which case will there be any new material in this compilation compared to the previous ones? Or have they just been packaged differently effectively?
I causally browsed Gamespot, knowing their reviews as "Gamespot reviews" instead of "this guys/girls review". One day I randomly decided to check out On the Spot, and checked out a few after that until I sort of casually knew who some of the people were. I had never listened to The Hotspot because podcasts didn't interest me at the time. The whole Jeff thing happened and because I sort of knew who Jeff was and liked him to a certain degree, I looked his name up on a Google search a little while after the fact and came upon the Arrow Pointing Down blog. I listened to their first podcast and that was that.
Well, no. Jeff is not going to be taking a position deciding any of what Gamespot does so it is not like Steve Jobs coming back but having Giantbomb in your building can only lead to good (dumb) things.
Except he is it seems, and I was suprised at this too when I spotted the smallprint in Gamespot's own news release:
"Gerstmann will continue in his role as editor-in-chief of Giant Bomb and will help shape the editorial direction of CBS Interactive's gaming portfolio, including GameSpot and GameFAQs."
I want to say you're reading too much into this but I guess I could see Jeff contributing some consultancy to the Gamespot team and providing a bit of guidance. There are some old wise heads still at Gamespot but actually not that many considering, so Jeff and maybe the others could be useful to the group as a whole.
