8GB and a 32GB model. About $350-$400 when converting directly from Japanese yen. Pro controller $65?????

Math checks out. It's never a 1:1 conversion of Japanese Yen to United States Dollar with consoles (or gaming as whole). I'd expect it to be 400 USD for the Premium model and 300 USD for Basic on our shores.

Also 12/8 release date in Japan...so 2013 for America?

What are they smoking over at Nintendo? An Xbox 360, which has a million titles and a 250GB HDD is $200. The Wii U is possibly slightly better graphically speaking and will launch at these prices? I don't get it...

The Wii was 250 USD at launch, so I'm already changing my guess to 250 USD for basic and 300-325 for Premium model.

I see your angle, but disagree. Xbox 360 did not carry such a friendly price tag at launch (300 USD, right?). Plus the Wii U is new. New things grab attention. Disregard whatever issues most people have with the specifications of the hardware; the Wii U is a new platform that will be bustling with fresh titles (hopefully).

I'm here waiting for that video. It's 12:00 AM now, and it's going... in Japanese.

All Japanese all night, man. Hoping some kind souls on the 'net will upload a rough (and brief) translation of the important stuff: Release Date, Price (which might not be super accurate given currency exchange and stuff), and Launch title confirmations.

I'm fine with either controller (Dual Shock or 360) for virtually any game. Except fighters (which I have a fight stick on each console), RTS and FPS (which I universally play on PC...like god intended).

@Jams: You are on crack if you think any next gen console, WiiU is not next gen, will be under $300 at launch.

WiiU is considered next gen as the Wii is consider this gen. The term "generation" has nothing to do with horsepower or tech specification but rather the start of a manufacturing cycle. The Big Three (Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony) all release consoles within a year or so from each other to avoid being buried under the inevitable avalanche of media coverage a new console brings to the public...both in the gaming press and the mainstream press.

I'm hoping the WiiU will be 300 USD or under at launch, but that fancy tablet controller cannot be extremely cheap to build. I'm guessing 350 USD.

From my Amazon pre-orders:

1)Borderlands 2 (PC)

2) Epic Mickey 2: Power of Two (PC)

3) Medal of Honor: Advance Warefighter (PC)

4) Need For Speed: Most Wanted (PC)

5)X Com: Enemy Unknown (PC)

6) Dance Central 3 (360)

7) Halo 4 (360)

8) Assassin Creed 3 (PC)

9) Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (360)

10) Playstation Battle All Stars (PS3)--Thinking about cancelling this one...Don't have much in the way of local competition and online play is far too impersonal for this sort of trash-talk pseduo-fighting

11) Call of Duty Black Ops II (360...might pick up the PC verison off steam during inevitable winter sale)

Also have Torchlight 2 pre-ordered on Steam...whenever it feels like dropping. Will probably play some Mechwarrior Online when it, too, decides to release.

And then when nobody buys the game on PC, rather than being like, "oh they didn't buy it because it wasn't optimal," From Software will just go, "well, we are never doing that again, what a waste," and stick to consoles.
Yep, this. Fucking idiots.

I'm sorry but I would have been happy with no advanced graphics options and perhaps performance issues that I could at least brute force my way through.

That being said, name me a single PC game in the last 10 year that didn't actually have an option to change the basic resolution? That's not just beyond lazy, it's incompetent and a complete joke.

You either don't buy the game and send the message that PC gamers never wanted it or you do and send the message that bad port jobs are acceptable.

That MK Collection PC port had no resolution options. Just the default 720p---pure console porting. Though, unlike Dark Souls, Mortal Kombat 1-Ultimate MK 3 were eons away from native HD...and I can only imagine how stretch out the pixels would look in 1900X1080.

I pre-ordered Dark Souls PC on the hopes that all the early chatter of piss-poor graphic options/locked 30FPS was just overzealous jibber jabber based on early builds on the port. I can live with near mandatory controller input, but locking a framerate and denying resolution changes makes me want to embark on the foolish task of asking Steam for my money back.
