Referring to DQXI as "super super gay" is ironic to me since the composer Koichi Sugiyama, who is certainly one of the figureheads on the DQ franchise and is therefore definitely one of the hire ups getting royalties, is very very actively anti-gay, anti LGBT.

During the discussion on Tetris Effect someone mentioned Meteos should come back, to which Ben asked with surprise whether Mizuguchi had made that game. Jeff (I think?) said it was the same company and that Mizuguchi simply produced it, which was followed by a general "oh" with a tone of disappointment -- "only" producer.

Well this is a PSA to let y'all know Mizuguchi is "just" producer on a lot of his hit games - Rez, Lumines, while Tetris Effect he is simply labelled as "original concept". In fact the only game he's directed is Child of Eden, arguably the least popular of games one thinks of when we think of a "Mizuguchi" game.

This isn't to rag on the GOD Mizuguchi, so much as I feel like the rest of the team is being completely swept under the rug. Tetris Effect's director is Takashi Ishihara and the guy has like 300 followers on twitter. He's a total unknown, and deserves an unbelievable amount of kudos.

I know this is an anal comment but generally I feel like Giant Bomb doesn't often fall under that "auteur worship" (Dan aside, with Kojima) that permeates a lot of game's coverage, yet every conversation of Tetris Effect often feels synonymous with Mizuguchi and I just think we could spread the love a bit to the rest of the team. So let this be a simple passive aggressive PSA.

Also fun fact, Sakurai of Smash fame is one of the main designers on Meteos. The moral of the story is Meteos needs to make comeback in 2019.

@skithemadrussian:

thanks for clarifying. I've been off the bombcast train for a bit.

I'm sure there are others (like me) who only watch the quick looks though. Just seems like an oversight and a bit unethical, but I'm probably overreacting.

Iron Galaxy developed this, right?

I'm 20 minutes into the quick look and this hasn't been acknowledged. I feel like Jeff not acknowledging that he has a podcast with the main dev of this game is... hmm...

Dan is more than allowed to his own opinions on Walmart and its work practices but it's not something I feel super great supporting as a premium member. Will not be renewing.

It's one thing to be grateful for the things Walmart provides at a cheap cost, it's another to be in an influential position like Dan's and to willfully ignore the bigger picture and to double down on "but from a CONSUMER's perspective..." how great a company they are.

This is a serious low point in my relationship with the site.

Obviously the soulsborne comparisons are near endless, but to those who've played it, does that comparison remain apt when discussing Nioh' worldbuilding and storytelling? Because the game mechanics/combat of Souls I like, but I wouldn't give a flying fuck if not for their amazing world design and mysterious storytelling. Visually this looks a little repetitive... but honestly I haven't seen anything beyond this demo.

Problem with the Best Music discussion is they'll fire up 10 seconds of a random track and go "yeah, it's good but I don't think it hangs".

This has always been the worst category for me and I'm really surprised they didn't overhaul it for this year, as it was as much of a shit show last year as well. I would prefer it if they didn't cue up little samplers, because getting gut reactions out of songs means something like Brigador/Furi/Hotline Miami etc. will always win out against a Journey/Abzu/Virginia/Ori.

It's dumb, and it's the only category I just can't get over. If this was a "music opinions are subjective" discussion it'd be fine, but that's not what it's about. If you can't make your case for why a soundtrack is good without having to play a sampler, then don't bring it up imo.

Imagine if arguments for every category were just "hold up let me show you this sweet moment in this youtube video". I remember Austin acknowledging at some point (twitter?) that the Best Music discussion last year was a little, uh, pedestrian? But without him I feel like we just got a mundane repeat of last year.
