You know you're shameless when....

...a blog like this comes just for the EXP. Man....I feel so dirty.

To make this not entirely pointless, have you guys done anything really shameless like picking up coins off the ground, or finishing someone else's food because seeing them throw it away makes it look like they are not taking full advantage of their hard earned cash??!!!!???!!!! Because it's not like I've done something like that.....

God of War vs Devil May Cry - Cutting dudes in two different ways

OK now, before you all go talking about flame bait and trolling and whatnot just hear me out.

I just want to talk about the differences in the combat systems in both games and the resultant divide between most of the audiences that play and enjoy each respective style. God of War employs a more accessible and easy-to-use combat system which aims for more awesome reward with less effort. Devil May Cry has a deeper, more complex combat system with a bigger focus on timing. As a result, on average, there are less less awesome moments but a greater satisfaction when pulled off. Like me, the God of War audience don't mind this kind of combat where you can fudge it a bit and get away with it since the feel of the weapons and the feeling I get after simply pushing the circle button and seeing the vicious carnage that ensues. From what my friends who are fans of Devil May Cry tell me, that crowd go for crazy juggling combos and S Ranks and the satisfaction from the challenge of the game. There's nothing wrong with that.

My problems comes with them coming up and telling me the gameplay in God of War is respectively worse because you can pretty much button mash your way through it. I guess to an extent  that can be said but it's the great feel and visceral, visual reward that comes from simple combos that hits the spot for me. I mean, seriously mashing the circle ain't anything, but when you also see him slamming a door repeatedly in the man's face, it gets pretty awesome. When did harder and more complex combat mean better gameplay? What do you guys think? Do you think I'm wrong? Do you think I'm right? I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

Sharing my GIANT BURGER with GIANTBOMB!!!!

Here's the thing. My friend planned out this wild plan to make a giant burger from scratch using flour and yeast and all that jazz. The plan was instead of splitting the dough in pieces like in the recipes, we would use the whole dough to make one huge giant bun. Naturally of course we would also make our giant patty with a whole bunch of mince as well. Here's how it went down:

We first made our dough t hrough the recipe of course having little to no knowledge on how to actually make bread except from what we see on TV

That is one big patty.
That is one big patty.
. After a few scares with the dough starting to crack being to dry and then the dough becoming a bit sticky as it was too wet from some water we put in, we managed to find a nice mid range consistency. One friend in our group used to live in a bread shop which his parents run so we thought he was the most qualified to knead . This worked well as he was also very impartial to using a lot of aggressive force toward the dough and so beat it into shape. To which we jeered and cheered him on.

The patty came next and it wasn't too hard in making and frying it until it came down to flpping the damn thing. Now as most of you burger afficionados know, the structural integrity of the patty was an absolutely crucial aspect of any burger, just as vital as the choice of sauce in a burger. Through masterful technique we managed to use four people (with four spatulas) to manoeuvre the patty onto the other side. This was a breakthrough moment in our journey.

 Finished product.

Everything else seemed to all fit into place after that with burger bun cooking perfectly and the rest being just cutting up vegetables. However, when it came to eating the thing, the distr ibution system used was not unilke that of a cake cutting system to minimise disruption of the burger stack. I gotta tell you, that was one tasty burger, I wish I had Sprite to wash it down with (guess the reference?). So here I am now, a wiser and more accomplished young man ready to head out into the future to tackle almost anything in my path. Burger King, eat your heart out!! We are the masters of your domain now!!!

Motion Controls (First blog yay!)

I know there have been tons of threads and posts about motion controls and whatnot but I just wanted to give my thoughts and opinions on the whole issue. Also it's a good reason to start my first blog post. Anyway back to the point.

My initial reaction to motion controls as to most of the general pubilc was that it would be potentially freaking awesome. The future was right there all Minority Report-like. You see, controllers are great for pretty much all games and is the best medium if you want to play them. But the mouse and keyboard are the kings of FPSs and RTSs and have so far cannot be matched in terms of fidelity and precision. Some may disagree in terms of FPSs that's fine by me this is a discussion after all. Motion controls said to me that this was one step further toward bridging the gap between PC and console gaming. RTS gaming, while still would not be as hardcore in terms of micromanagement and whatnot, would become a decent possible proposition for consoles evolving the industry, and evolution in the industry is always a good thing. As such, expectations were pretty high. You could say that I was really excited.....until now.

Coming back to the present, there seems to be an almost unanimous hate toward motion controls by which it is dismissed a merely and gimmick and a fad. The shovelware that is prominently filling up the Wii's gaming repertoire have left people jaded on the issue. To be honest, I had also developed my own brand of loathing for the system. However, in my opinion, the fault does not lie on the hardware, rather the software that is developed for it. We see that great games that also look great can be developed for this system like Super Mario Galaxy and No More Heroes, which rather relying solely on motion controls which would be awkward and insecure is a hybrid between classic controller and motion sensing. It's not much, but again this can be a step toward evolution of the industry. I think if the proper games are developed, not just garbage minigame collections that exploit the naivety of the ultra casual gamer, motion controls can act as a complimentary gameplay aspect, rather than a replacement, to the button pressing controller we know and love.

What are you guys thoughts? Agree or disagree? If you think I'm stating the obvious then......good for you(!)

Answer to Question of the Day

Gameboy was without a doubt my most played gaming device. EVER. Or to be more specific, the Gameboy Color.
So I think its more to do with the games on the actual device rather than device itself. Instead of trying to fit miniature versions of console games on handhelds, I think games that are very simple, addictive and fun to just pick up and play should be brought back. Who knows how many hours I have spent on Pokemon or Tetris?
