The Best of 2010 by random_guy23

So yeah, here is my list of the best games of 2010. The list is in no particular order, becuase guess what? There were so many awesome releases this year, I really couldn't make a decision on my favourite game of the year. I have tried to put the list in a chronological order, so starting with early 2010 games, and ending with the later releases. Oh well, here goes...

List items

  • This game seems like it came out ages ago now, but it holds up very well. The online component is fantastic, and I still reguarly jump back in for more. On top of all this multiplayer goodness is an awesome single player campaign. All of this comes together to form a serious shooter package. Good job DICE.

  • A vast open world, over the top action, and incredible graphics. These are the three things that I noticed the most while playing Avalanche Studios latest, Just Cause 2. This is the best open world game to come out this year, by a long shot. And yes, it is like playing through a cheesy b-movie, but aren't video games supposed to be fun? In this sense, Just Cause 2 succeeds.

  • Oh Split/Second. How I love your ridiculous over the top races. Buildings are being blown apart, planes are crashing, and yet, racing around all this madness is the best thing to do? I absolutely loved this game top to bottom, and its awesome graphics, presentation, and sense of speed hooked me from the first race. Want classic Burnout style races but better in almost every way? Here's your answer.

  • John Marston's wild west story was one of the most engaging I've ever played in a video game. Rockstar San Diego knew exactly what they wanted to achieve with the new Red Dead, and they got it straight on. Red Dead Redemption is the best Western game ever created. Plus, with all of the support that it's been getting with downloadable content, there's even more incentive to jump back on that horse one more time.

  • My favourite video game franchise of all time recieved a major overhaul this year in terms of graphics, online features, and game modes. Adding these extra features on top of what is already the greatest football simulation ever created combines to form a stunning game that shines above the rest of the competition. Better luck next time, FIFA.

  • Now, I'm not a big fan of the NBA. I don't watch matches, I don't support a team. I first saw several videos of this game on the internet, it looked liked great fun, and it totally is. The gameplay flows incredibly, and the player and dunk animations look great. This is a simple, fun and incredibly deep arcade basketball game that will keep you coming back for more. Just plain awesome.

  • Even though it was over hyped, Black Ops proved to be a worthy addition to the Call of Duty franchise, because of the engaging story driven campaign and the addictive Multiplayer and Zombies game modes. Yes, on the PS3, the game is weaker, with frame rate problems and online issues. But aside these minor problems, this is a game that has obviously had a lot of effort and dedication put into creating, so kudos to Treyarch for putting out a quality product.

  • Pac-Man is a franchise that has never had a better release than this. It's Pac-Man, but reinvented for the 21st century. With high resolution graphics, deep content, and an awesome techno retro soundtrack, this is the best downloadable game of the year.

  • The next game in the stabbing people in the throat repeatedly franchise has taken open world gaming to the next level, with the entire city of Rome gloriously re-created in full for you to explore and, well, murder people. In all seriousness, this game is fantastic, and Ubisoft's best this year.

  • Ninja Theory's story driven adventure platformer impressed me in a variety of ways. The full body motion capture performances really helped to bring the characters to life, and it really does make it seem like you are playing through a Hollywood blockbuster. Although it had some control issues, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West kept me hooked from start to finish.
