I haven't played Warframe since Heart of Deimos dropped but it feels like DE is a little to late to the part with the Railjack adjustments. I remember seeing the huge crafting component costs and just wondering who in their right mind would have the time to farm all this stuff out and I'm probably not alone in thinking that. But I think the bigger problem might be with Railjack itself; what exactly am I supposed to be playing Railjack for? Is there any weapons. mods or warframes exclusive to railjack that are worth getting or is this just DE trying to tack on more stuff to their game like they did with Arcwing?

I think your right on the mark when it comes to problems with Railjack. There is some thing this update does address the component cost issue (it only cost 10% of what it originally use to build your railjack). Also removing the resources that you could get by doing railjack and replacing the cost with resource you can obtain by playing just in the core starchart.

I think the second question you pose is a big one that every player is wondering right now. Is what is the point of Railjack. To be honest this update did not really address it. As you rightfully mentioned, the community has also brought up the same sentiment Archwing (and to the same extent the Open Worlds) suffer from feeling like desperate parts of the game (a game within a game).

DE stated goal from their dev post:

Enter Railjack. Technology from the Old War that when wielded today, could take all of Warframe’s combat to Orbit. We tried many things that were different from the norm. While some elements did offer a unique spin on the existing formula, it was not for everybody, and many complaints cited the amount of separation from the main game as a negative. And we agree.

As we revisit Railjack in 2021, our overall goal is to simplify these points of friction, better integrating Warframe’s signature “flow”. This flow has evolved over the years for core Warframe, thanks in no small part to our continuous overhauls and revisits.

They seem aware of the issue and want to bring the core game closer to it. I don't think they have succeeded yet. This update is much a baby step towards that. By lowering the barrier of entry and getting rid of the railjack only resources. They can better make a case for things you do in Railjack contributing to the core game and vica-versa.

As for what's railjack that are worth getting that is not exclusive to just Railjack:

There are new weapons and new weapon mods (non-railjack related) you can earn in this update that drop the corpus railjack missions. They also added Arcanes to the drop tables for some the Orphix mission modes. Ultimately these are small things that I hope they keep iterating on.

Update 30 is suppose to introduce:

  1. Corpus Queen Pin / Liches
  2. Void Storms that allow you to crack fissures more efficiently
  3. New Warframe named Savagoth,
  4. A potentially spoiler filled Quest.

I can see some these teased features needing a Railjack.

Rapid from the Giant Bomb PC Alliance here to tell you about the new Warframe update (29.10) that just released on PC (Friday, March 19).

See Edit for UPDATE 30!

Update 29.10: is now out on PC! Here's a very very high level summary, please check the full patch notes for more of the nitty gritty.

It's been a while since Warframe had large update like this, the pandemic situation has put a certain challenges on their studio resources and workflow. The complete patch notes for this update is incredible dense with details. You can check out the patch notes here for Update 29.10.0: Corpus Proxima & The New Railjack. If you need a refresher, Warframe introduced Space Ship Combat as new game mode in 2019 with its Empyrean update.

For those returning to Warframe it's a lot changes take in. @thouddin and myself (Rapid) of the Giant Bomb PC Clan put together a video: A look at Update 29.10's changes to Railjack that goes over some of the board changes to help our fellow duders get back into it. Check it out here: Corpus Proxima & Railjack 3.0 Rework - Warframe with the Giant Bomb Community.

Loading Video...

A high level overview of this update:

  • Lower barrier to entry cost of ship components and time to build them
  • Those wanting to play solo now have the option to recruit, train, and customize a crew of (up to 3) AI Friendlies (NPCs) to take on roles during Railjack missions.
  • Several (6 of them) resources & currencies (Avionics and Dirac) introduced in Empyrean have been removed, and replaced with existing resources more common in core of Warframe (ie. Endo and Battle Mods).
  • The Avionics system has been replaced with the traditional Warframe modding system to streamline and unify Warframe's upgrade system.
  • Corpus Proxima missions have been added to the Railjack Starchart.

Additionally, this update also introduces reworks to Zephyr and introduces a new deluxe skin.

DE will be looking at feedback from the the PC playerbase. They have implemented a trello board to better track popular feedback which can be found here: Warframe Trello Board. If you are playing on console please note: DE plans to ship Update 30 simultaneously on all platforms, with 29.10's content bundled with Update 30 on consoles. Update 30 is planned to be release in later spring.

This new operation is really fun!

Thanks for helping with the run. Let me know you want farm event the more. I still have the Ophix Weapon Blueprint to farm and those weapon skins as well.

The mode is like Survival but with Necramechs but actually encourages you to not just camp in one place. Although, eventually the Orphix start spawning in a pattern and you can anticipate where they will like to spawn next.

I really hope they keep pushing out more and more necromech content. Its so cool having more parallel power progression paths.

Yeah definitely I hope they find a way to integrate the Necramech's more into regular gameplay. It would be shame if they fell into that pitfall as Archwing did where they were kind of one-note and the gameplay really fell short. This was test to see how Necramech would play in regular missions but I feel right now its hard to pick a Necramech over a Warframe unless their was some sort of gimmick (like disabling your Warframe) to make me want to pick a Necramech over a Warframe. But I am optimistic, having a Necramech gives us more options in that you always have a tanky mech on hand even if you playing a support or fragile frame.

Operation: Orphix Venom is live on PC!

No Caption Provided

Ophix Venom is a new limit time (30 day) event featuring new features coming to Necramechs! For those who haven't heard, Necramech are the player controlled mechs introduced in the Heart of Deimos update. Previously Necramech usage was constrained to only open world locations like Plains of Eidolon, Orb Vallias, and Deimos. This was because regular warframe missions weren't designed with Necramechs in mind, and so the doorways and hallways of traditional warframe levels were too small for our Mechs to fit in. Well, they've solve the issue and now Operation Orphix Venom let's you test the Necramechs in a limited set of missions set in the regular levels of Warframe.

As Rebecca Ford summarizes in a tweet, the dev team experimented with different implementations of Necramech traversal before deciding ultimately it be much more entertaining to embrace the awkward height difficulties. They put in sparks and sounds when your Necramech collided with the geometry. You can see the Necramech scrapping their heads against the ceiling of door frames without any care.

Rapid and the Giant Bomb PC Community check out a new limited time special event in Warframe. Check it out in the video below:

Special thanks to Natroninja, @wandrecanada@faagadaba and cha0sniper of the Giant Bomb Alliance for their help in the event!

This event is big spoilers for Warframe lore but they are continuing to gear up for the "New War". The Sentients are back, Natah has figured out how to create a Sentient version of a nullifers, these new enemies disperse a transference dampening field disabling the Tenno's Warframe. The Tenno lose connection to their Warframes and are forced out whenever they enter the energy field.

The Sentient Ophix are why for these missions you need to resort to using the Necramech and Operator. There are sections in the mission where you basically can't use your Warframe.

You can still do the new event without a owning a necramech but it is kind of a hassle yes. You basically need to search around the level, there are dormant Necramechs scattered around the level which, when you void dash into with the operator can then take control of.

There are 3 tiers of difficulty:

  1. Operation: Orphix Venom (500 Points Needed to Pogress)
  2. Operation: Orphix Venom - Advanced (1000 Points Needed to Progress)
  3. Operation: Orphix Venom - Endurance (Endless Mode - Farm Points to your content)

When players encounter an area with an Orphix. First, destroy all the Nodes surrounding the Orphix Destroying all the nodes marked in red on the map will cause the Orphix to become vulnerable. Take down the Orphix to half health with either Necramech weapons or Operator amp and soon more nodes will spawn. Take out the remaining nodes then take out the Orphix's remaining health. Shortly after, the next Orphix will spawn. Rinse and Repeat! For every 3rd Orphix that is destroyed the squad will get one of the following reward drops:

Lavos Blueprint & Parts

Cedo Blueprint & Parts

New Necramech Mods

Players can extract from the mission once the first 3 Orphix are destroy or continue to pursuing Orphix for Mission Score. Note:

Try to survive for as long as you can - 36 Orphix will be the maximum amount in the Endurance mission, so once you’ve hit 36, it’s time to extract! The first two Operation missions have a limit of 24 Orphix. Players looking to maximize their score should head to Endurance! .

Phasic Cells can be earned in any Operation mission. But remember - Endurance gives the most points per Orphix, so you’ll earn the most Phasic Cells there. A prepared and coordinated squad even more so! While this Operation is possible Solo, best results will come from coordinated Squads!

Phasic Cells can traded to Father on Deimos for special Rewards. Note: Players can also earn a number of rewards also by just playing the Operation - including Lavos the newest Warframe,

The rewards from Operation - Scarlet Spear are also being offered by Father if players did not have chance to pick those rewards up from the last event.
