There are still riddles. The city is the same location but totally different, it's neat to see it before it became a prison but it's also much less rich with detail and easter eggs. I really didn't care for the story, though many think it's the best, guess it depends how you like your Batman. I stil had a blast doing the same old free-roaming Arkham stuff though, despite its rough edges.

"Batman: Noel", written and illustrated by Lee Bermejo, adapts Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" into a Batman story. Sounds like it could be silly but it's handled brilliantly, especially the character choices for the three ghosts. The artwork will blow your mind and the story will leave you warm and tingly with Christmas spirit.

Brink is the most similar thing I've played, and if it wasn't marketed as something much more it'd be regarded as the decent game it actually is.

I love this game, that's when Acclaim was at their peak. And as MonetaryDread said, one of the finest 3D Metroidvanias ever. I got it for Dreamcast when I was like 13 and loved the atmosphere and characters but found the layout of the game impenetrable after a while, even with the awesome included map. I revisited it a couple years ago and with the admitted help of some guides, finally made some progress and it was really rewarding. I still haven't beaten it, got to one of the last bosses and the Dreamcast crapped out on me, but one of these days I'll finish it, man. Definitely an underrated gem.

Wow, that was a great read and answered a lot of questions I'd had concerning Damnation for a while. I actually finally beat the game a couple days ago and as an Unreal mod enthusiast, I found it to be an interesting exercise in level design. Everything else was poorly underdeveloped and that focus on huge levels killed any hope of pacing, but I had some fun moments for the maybe 30% of it I wasn't completely bored and annoyed. Like you, TC, I kind of found myself rooting for this game for some strange reason too, so it's good to hear some of those involved found success afterward. Thanks for the great article!

I was super excited until I checked out some more videos and saw that it's more like Bulletstorm with the scoring system and big text popping up for every kind of kill. And it has regenerating health. And the multiplayer portion is PC-only. So, it hardly seems like the old-school romp I was hoping for but I'd still like to try it out and for $15 it could win me over.

Haze - emptiest game I've ever played. Made Duke Nukem Forever feel like a nuanced masterpiece. Beat it in one long painful sitting and seriously questioned buying cheap used games anymore afterward; which is like my favorite thing to do.

Bionic Commando (2007?) - Swinging was fun, so much so that I bought this mess twice. Everything else was an assy chore.

@corvak: Unreal Tournament III has mod support on PS3. Really wish that would've caught on and become more of a thing because it's amazing.

Timesplitters did it and that was a PS2 launch title so I'm guessing there was a PS1 title that did it first. Can't seem to pinpoint one though.

Season 1 was so overkill with the melodramatic sappiness that I gave up on it before the last 2 episodes. Then I caught season 2 recently when it was on demand and found it awesome from start to finish. They must've changed writers or something though because season 3 started extremely dumb and repetitive and is only starting to get okay after like 5 episodes.
