With what they did to the story of this game, calling it a remake is straight up false advertising. It's like Kojima trying to make people think that Solid Snake was the main character of MGS2 back in the day before the game came out. It's pretty messed up.

Sakaguchi was the reason the original was beloved. Nomura really Nomura'd the hell out of this game, and it is really worse off for it.

Probably way too late for this now, but the flash kick move with the shoes is actually a string of 3 attacks like Fei Long's Rekkas from Street Fighter. So you have to input quarter circle forward + attack 3 times in succession to do the whole thing.

It does a decent amount of damage and, more importantly, it allows you to move forward a significant amount in mid air. This is especially effective if you delay the input for each kick so you can go further.

Ben is way off the mark about Soul Calibur's competitive history. If anything, it's pretty infamous because of Soul Calibur 2, which was arguably the most beloved entry in the series from the competitive scene. The EVO grand finals for Soul Calibur 2 from forever ago (I think it was 2004?) was one of the primary reasons that they implemented the anti-collusion rule. I don't recall if Soul Calibur 4 had a spot, but I know that Soul Calibur 5 definitely had one year. I'm not personally a fan of Soul Calibur 6, but it clearly has a strong enough competitive scene to have been a sure thing for at least one year at EVO.

NeoGeo Battle Coliseum is an amazing game. Some of the most fun variations of every character, and Marco from Metal Slug is super cheap in it.

Also, we need more King Lion/King Leo. Bring him back for KOF please.

It's worth noting that Toriyama was intending to end the series multiple times ever since the original Dragon Ball days. The end of the Freiza saga was supposed to be one of those ending points. That helps explain some of the awkwardness of the transition during this time skip. Kai's shortening of this part makes it even more weird.

Also, a reminder that the series began with most of the crew getting together after years of not having seen each other. Remember that some of them didn't even know that Goku had a kid when he introduced Gohan. So we can assume that most of these peeps don't hang out on the reg.

For those wondering, this game pretty much has every Gundam series outside of G Gundam and Gundam X. It even has some of the crappy jazz music from Thunderbolt.

Really wish Ben put some of the amazing Z Gundam fight music on though.

This track for example gets me fucking pumped to shoot down some mobile suits:

Kind of amusing that Ben made a comment about wanting a dodge to cancel out of his attack animations, when that should really be a revelation that the problem is that he is committing to his attacks when there is not an opening and it is getting him hit. Not every action game needs to give you the ability to cancel out of your recovery animations for attacks. The game is easy enough as it is.

Having said all of that, this game does give you a dodge later on.
