Game of the Year, Every Year

This is a list where I'll put my GOTY of each year. 2006-2009 is based off memory because there is no official record, but I am 100% confident in my choices from those years. 2010-now are based off blogs or lists here on Giant Bomb.

List items

  • 2015 Game of the Year

"It is a very well-written game that manages to combine two tired things (Borderlands stories and Telltale games) and make something beautiful out of it." -Me, 2015

  • 2014 Game of the Year

"I’m 27 years old and have hated Tetris my whole life and Puyo Puyo Tetris finally got me to end my vendetta." -Me, 2014

  • 2013 Game of the Year

"When I first played the imported verion back in March, I knew this was something special, and called this as my game of the year back in the spring. A few games came close, but nothing topped it." -Me, 2013

  • 2012 Game of the Year

"Just when you think you have this game figured out, it will mess with you. The more you think about it, the more it punishes you, at that point it’s best just to stop thinking so damn hard, and just enjoy the ride." -Me, 2012

  • 2011 Game of the Year

"The single-player mode is one of the best I've ever played. The characters are great, the story turns are great, and that ending, oh man that ending. One of those moments where you wish you could experience it for the first time again." -Me, 2011

  • 2010 Game of the Year

"Heavy Rain was not only a great game. It was also the reason I started using Twitter." -Me, 2010

  • 2009 Game of the Year

"This is still the best Call of Duty campaign, the US stages are still amazing. Akimbo rangers, harriers, AC-130s, EMPs. So many great toys in multiplayer. And I'll never forget my first nuke" -Me, 2015

  • 2008 Game of the Year

"Cool gameplay, a great story, an amazing setting, unforgettable characters, and one of the best soundtracks ever. This game is as close to perfect as you can get." -Me, 2015

  • 2007 Game of the Year

"I played the whole original Ace Attorney trilogy over the year, still the best trilogy in games. Trials and Tribulations is the best of the three, with one of the best final showdowns ever." -Me, 2015

  • 2006 Game of the Year

"The original Metal Gear Online was my first online experience, and nothing will ever top that. I will always cherish the friends I made, the friends that became enemies, and staying up until 4 in the morning playing Capture in Killhouse C." -Me, 2015
