Best of 2014

This year I played most of my games on Steam, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. It was the year I rediscovered Nintendo. It was the year where I picked up Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii again and the year where the 3DS got most of my gaming time. The year where Europe finally got a (digital only) release of Shin Megami Tensei IV, a franchise I always wanted to pick up and the year where I decided to not buy a PS4 and Xbox One due to the lack of interesting titles.

These are my favorite games of 2014, which were released in 2014. Besides those, I've been playing lot's of older games this year. I even dusted off my old GameBoy Advance Micro and started playing Metroid Fusion and Castlevania and picked up a bunch of DS titles such as 999, which I really enjoyed.

  • It took a long time to get this game to Europe. I don't know what happened, but Atlus lost a lot of goodwill and reputation with this one. Still, it's one of the most interesting RPG's I have played. The game still has me hooked and really needs to be picked up by any European RPG fan.

  • The best music in a game, ever! Also, Mario Kart 8 made me love this series again. I really didn't like the GameCube and Wii Karts, but this one has me hooked. Great tracks, music, graphics and even the DLC is done right. It uncrowns Sonic & Allstar Racing Transformed as best arcade racer/kart game.

  • It's crazy this is a Nintendo exclusive. But it's so good! I never really finished the first one, so I love it's included as well. Crazy story, gameplay and graphics makes this a must have!

  • After I don't know how many years this game get's a proper re-release on PC. It's might be cheating to have this on my 2014 list, but why not...? It's a great game, with graphics that look still really well. Gameplay is great. I'm a sucker for these tactical games and I really hope Sega will release the other two VC games on PC as well.

  • I loved Dark Souls and I like Dark Souls II. I think this game is great, but it lost something what made the original so great. I didn't finish this one and don't plan to get back to it, still I enjoyed my time playing it and I can see this is a great game, just not as good as the first one.
